Can my husband stay in a hotel to get some sleep?

My husband is having to provide some urgent care for his father who is very ill. This includes night time lifting, including for toileting care.

While we hope to sort out something a bit longer term by the end of the week, I am concerned about the lack of sleep on his ability to cope with this.

We have a toddler who hasn't slept since he was born and has been really awful for the last month so he was already sleep deprived. We live in a small house where he can't really get away from it when he gets back from seeing his father.

I am worried the lack of sleep on top of the stress will break him and wondered if he can stay at a hotel to get some sleep? They say they are closed except for education, business or self isolation. It doesn't really fulfil any of those criteria, but isn't exactly leisure either.

Any ideas?

Can you do a search online then call the ones which appear to be still operating?

Some are still open for NHS and homeless, I suppose since DH would like a room for caring purposes then he might be eligible.

Do you want anyone to look it up if you say the area?

Thanks, I will do that now.

I suppose the issue is how honest are we? Do we just click the 'for business' box, or will they require proof?

Most places i know require proof. And will make phonecalls, verify letters etc to confirm the purpose of the travel.

You need to be honest.

Do they not give an option of caring? Phone the hotel and explain the situation.

It's so odd trying to get things done in these current circumstances! Hope it works out.

I've stayed at 4 different hotels in the past couple of weeks, mainly Premier Inn and Travelodge (I'm a nurse who sometimes picks up agency shifts away from my home area) and I've never once been asked to prove the reason that I'm staying. I think that perhaps providing caring responsibilities in the area would be a reason to stay, I'm not sure though. I'd send them an email.

Thanks for the help with this. In case anybody else needs to know, I spoke to Premier Inn and they feel that it is well within the regulations for a person to use their rooms for this purpose, particularly if they are travelling alone.
