I know it's was for the NHS. I understand it went to NHS charities. It was a lot of money, who have been the beneficiaries ?

He's in hospital with COVID now.

Money is being spent on wellbeing for staff and patients.

superduster · 31/01/2021 22:34

Are you not able to Google for some reason?

PurplePansy05 · 31/01/2021 22:39

OP, apparently we aren't allowed to talk about him because he's in hospital and some comments on the previous threads were "not in the spirit" because they criticised his family members for various reasons, but wished him well...still not in the spirit. Just FYI, all threads about him are disappearing.

visitorfromtheplanetzog · 31/01/2021 22:43

If you want information about charities, then search the Charities Commission website where the documents are in the public domain.

Every NHS trust has charitable funds, some which are specific to a service or are a legacy in someone's will. Services have to develop a bid for what they would like to buy and how it will benefit patients. This year my service is buying a surgical microscope for spinal procedures. We are paying for half of the 100k cost from our own charitable fund and half from the trust CF which includes a proportion of the NHS charities monies. This will enable us to do spinal surgery as minimally invasive, cause less pain and trauma to surgical patients and allow patients to get home on the day of surgery.

In my hospital, initiatives have been taken forward to fund a surgical robot, an MRI scanner and a bereavement room. The last place I worked bought some amazing light boxes for the critical care unit which had no windows, with different nature designs. I have also had successful bids to CF in the past for a memorial garden.

I believe this year, due to the influx of donations to NHS Charities Together that hospitals were asked to nominate local charities and community initiatives that support health and wellbeing to receive an amount of money.

Jobsharenightmare · 31/01/2021 22:52

We had a proportion of it at my Trust. We have spent it on staff wellbeing services, improving access to much needed equipment, facilities for staff and relatives, bereavement initiatives etc.

StillMedusa · 31/01/2021 23:05

10k recently came to the childrens' hospice where my DD1 is a nurse... hugely appreciated as the hospice is run purely on donations and of course is struggling.

Bivvy · 31/01/2021 23:23

My sister is an NHS healthcare assistant/nurse and along with her colleagues in her community hospital received a £20 voucher from Captain Tom. It was like an online epic get code thing accepted at most shops. She was over the moon as it felt so personal.

I think she bought some new boots 😊

I thought it was a lovely gesture

I meant it was an online voucher code thing accepted at the usual high street shops

Good to hear - this money was raised with such hugely good intentions

And yes of course very best wishes to captain Tom

Thanks to all those who've answered. I think it's a perfectly good question.

Don't know why people have to be so snippy.
Of course people can google, but - what with this being a website / forum specifically set up so that Mums can chat with one another, there is nothing wrong with people fancying a chat Hmm

That is EXACTLY the purpose of MN. If you don't like people starting chats, I'm really not sure why you are on here ?

MercyBooth · 01/02/2021 01:29

so why are threads about him being zapped.

eternalopt · 01/02/2021 07:59

If we told you this thread will get zapped too! Google "captain Tom" and "Barbados" and "before vaccine" and you'll find your answer!

AlternativePerspective · 01/02/2021 08:04

Don't know why people have to be so snippy. perhaps because of the timing? It’s just been reported that he’s in hospital with COVID and suddenly people are starting to question what he did etc?

Now really isn’t the time.

MrsMercedes · 01/02/2021 08:08

This thread will only be deleted if the nasty bitches start on his family .... as they likely will

Lots of jealousy towards Toms daughter on last thread, hence deletions

ShalomToYouJackie · 01/02/2021 08:11

BBC news say BA gave him a free flight to Barbados in December so he went on a family holiday and now he's got Covid. For some reason threads are being zapped for mentioning this

MrsMercedes · 01/02/2021 08:12

He didn’t get covid from travelling though......it’s being insinuated he did

He didn’t

Barbados has zero to do with it

snowy0wl · 01/02/2021 08:13

I agree with BackforGood. I have enjoyed reading the personal stories on this thread about how the money has helped them or their Trust. Let’s keep this thread positive please - there is too much doom and gloom on Mumsnet atm!

Not questioning what he did at all! I'm asking how the charities who were the beneficiaries used the money. There is no ill intent whatsoever. I wish him well and it doesn't matter how he caught covid. He did a truly wonderful thing and I hope he recovers well.

I like hearing the reality of what his efforts achieved plus generosity of people.

Fine to ask op you won’t get the specifics posted here from google.
