What do I do with my dads repulsive sofa

Nc as this is a horrible topic

I don't know what to do and I need help.

My dad has been ill for around a year he's an alcoholic and it got a lot worse last year he started drinking a bottle of rum a day and consequently his liver and kidneys have begun to fail he also developed leg ulcers, heart issues, you name it.

He's been in hospital on 2 occasions over the last 3 months or so. Lately it seems as if he is doubly incontinent and yesterday he was taken to hospital by ambulance and fire brigade after sitting in his own mess for possibly up to 5 days.

I appreciate I should have known but lockdown has kept me away more so we have no relationship he was physically and emotionally abusive to me throughout my childhood and consequently I have little to do with him.

Anyway his living room and kitchen are beyond your worst nightmares. There is diarrhoea everywhere. The sofa is coated in it. I've managed to find a cleaning firm who have agreed to do a biohazard clean on it however the sofa is beyond help and must be removed.

Does anyone know what I should do? Is it environmental health for the council that can help me? I have to call round tomorrow to try and get someone, anyone, to get it and I don't know where to even begin

God i'm so sorry OP, that situation sounds horrendous. I would call the council. Can you wrap the sofa in tarpaulin or an old sheet?

Get marigold gloves on, remove the cushion covers and bag them up? and throw out the cushion foam?

Ask the cleaning firm to recommend someone to take the sofa away. My guess is that it's a relatively small world and I'll know someone.

Your council's waste team should either be able to arrange things for you, or be able to point you to a contractor who has the right licenses and can do the job. If not, this might help:
www.gov.uk/collection-large-waste-items (includes hazardous waste specialists, not just bulky items)

Thank you that's really helpful I appreciate it

Have you tried contacting social services? They may have advice, or patient support at the hospital.
