Potty trained DD sore down below?

Hi there,

My 2.5 year old dd has been toilet trained for about 2 months. We haven’t really had any trouble however last week I noticed DD was a bit red down below. I monitored it and went to a pharmacy who very abruptly told me I need to take DD to the GP. Called the GP who said it doesn’t sound like a problem and to monitor it for a week and see if it gets better so I had been putting Sudocrem on it which did seem to help. Yesterday and today dd has little accidents. Couldn’t hold it to make it to the loo so ended up partly weeing in her pants. When I was changing her after I noticed it was very red again. This is definitely a sign of a uti right?!

I know she’s very young to do the whole wipe-correctly thing so I’ve been doing it for her, first with a flushable wipe and then drying with tissue so I know she’s not irritated it that way. Could it be the flushable wipe? It’s just the regular andrex ones!

Sorry this ended up being really long! Anyway, I’ve popped some sudocrem on her now and she’s happy as can be but I’m really worried and GP isn’t open until tomorrow. No sign of fever and she’s been well in herself completely apart from these 2 accidents and the redness. Is this just a toilet training hiccups?!

Google Vulvovaginitis. Common in children around this age.

It does sound like vulvovaginitis. Don’t use any perfumed bath products at all & just use Vaseline as a barrier. Sudocrem won’t help.

I personally would just wipe with tissue and then also take the tips from previous poster.

A uti doesn't usually cause redness or soreness to the vulva. I'd take her to the gp again.

Thanks so much for your advice, that’s exactly what it sounds like! I will pick up some Vaseline now. Gosh, we really get all the fun don’t we. How am I going to break the no bubble bath rule to her 😭
