Are waterpik's worth it?

Can someone tell me are waterpik's good? I suffer with gum disease, but just can't seem to get on with either floss or interdental sticks, so wondering if I would get on better with a waterpik!

Are waterpiks useful for people with braces? My ds13 cannot floss because of them, but would jump at the chance for a gadget (if not too expensive) 😊

I have found that over time my gums have become used to the sensation and don't bleed when I use it. I sometimes use a Tepe stick after using the waterpik and I don't notice that much grot coming away, so I think it is doing a good job. The waterpik comes with four different tips so you can experiment to see which feels kindest. I generally use the one with the tiny bristles as the long nozzle gives a jet wash sensation. (Very useful if anything is trapped, though.)

Whichever one you get, if you use it daily it will be better than never flossing, so there will be a benefit.

Mine came with an attachment to use with braces

I've used one since I learned about water flossing on MN about this time last year.

Now I floss with tape, the water floss and then brush. When I first got it, I used disclosing tablets to see what had the best result. Those three in that order got rid of the most.

This is the first year I have managed to maintain the gaps between my front teeth between visits to the hygienist. If I do every skip the water floss (one off hangover related incident) my gums start to bleed again. Daily water flossing and ... no blood.

Bloody brilliant if you have impacted wisdom teeth!

I used to clean my teeth and think that was enough
Then I bought the water flosser and was horrified at how much food came out after brushing
No wonder I had problems with my wisdom teeth!

I have incredibly sensitive teeth and I'm fine with warm water!!

Get one!!

I have not got on with mine at all. And I’ve really tried because I have crowded teeth that cause every dentist I’ve ever seen to say ‘if you were a teenager we’d take a few out so you could floss more easily’ (and when I complained about the teepee sticks the dentist couldn’t fit them between my teeth either). But every time it’s a disaster. Gah!

Only thing I will say... it did knock my temporary lockdown filling out! But it's fine with normal ones!

TOWGA · 31/01/2021 14:44

Thanks @oohmama I have semi permanent fillings, so hopefully it would be okay, they ones that last 2-5 years.

I've got a Philips one. I use mouthwash or warm water in it.
