... would convict me?

DH has decided Lockdown 3.0 is the time to get really in to coffee. The coffee machine is fine, but the handheld bean grinder is another matter. The noise. The constant noise.

Apparently he "finds the sound relaxing". I've banished him to the kitchen with it (he was sitting next to me grinding the fecking things!) but I can still hear it...

We also have a white noise machine in the bedroom as otherwise he'd have a fan on in bloody January.

Any recommendations for noise cancelling headphones? Or patio construction supplies?

Patio construction seems good. I have had Washing Up Lessons.

I am 52 and been washing up since I was 9 and worked in professional kitchens since I was 16.

Hmm

Grin

My best friend used to have a boyfriend at uni who was always grinding coffee. She got rid of him sharpish when he insisted on waking her up early with a coffee and accompanying NNNNNNGGGGGGRRRRR coffee grinding soundtrack.

I don’t mind the hand grinder tbh. DH also hit into coffee over lockdown, he was already into bikes.....

Surely he will just claim he is testing his hearing??

AwkwardPaws27 · 30/01/2021 23:13

Washing Up Lessons - maybe an excuse to permanently hand the task over to him, as clearly he is better at it Wink

MoodyMarshall when he was at uni, he was really in to tea (I used to visit and quite enjoyed the kettle & teapot set up in his uni room!). This is a new development after 13 years of being together... I miss the tea...

BikeRunSki luckily no signs of cycling enthusiasm yet, but he does have around 15 musical instruments...

Hmmmm.... testing his hearing... not a bad idea considering the volume if the gigs we attended pre-covid... maybe I do need those headphones!!

I grind my own beans, it takes max 60 seconds per 2 cups. What the helm is doing that makes it take so long? You're not supposed to overgrind or are you? Or is he having 50 cups a day?!?

Shamoo · 31/01/2021 00:24

We have to sleep with white noise machine AND a fan on full blast every day of the year. I’m used to it now but I hear you 😂

Justgivemewine · 31/01/2021 00:37

Oh god, dh would have the air con/fan noise on every day of the year if he could, I tolerate it over summer as tbf the noise is more bearable than the stuffy bedroom, but I put my foot down once the nights get cooler (I open the windows and freeze the bedroom so he had no excuse)

DifficultBloodyWoman · 31/01/2021 07:26

How many beans is he grinding???

I’ve never timed it but I would guess no more than 20-30 seconds (happy to defer to others who know more than me).

AwkwardPaws27 · 31/01/2021 07:52

It looks like he has ground enough to last a week (doesn't that defeat the point? I thought the grind-your-own thing was for optimal freshness?). Hopefully he just got a bit carried away with his new toy and it won't be a regular occurrence!!

Oh dear - you are right, the whole point of grinding your own is to do it fresh each time. If you grind a whole batch ahead you may as well buy ready ground. Tell him to keep it in the freezer - that helps preserve the freshness and it can be used direct from there. That is what I do with both beans, and roast and ground, once they're open.
