Chronic Constipation

Posted in General health too but hoping for more traffic!

Ghastly subject.

For years I've suffered with chronic constipation.

I've not helped myself and not stuck at any kind of routine with diet or supplements etc.

Can anyone suggest any methods.

Doctor is NO help. Fed up with constantly being fobbed off to increase water intake (I'll drown if I drink anymore!)

Prunes? Fybogel? Probiotics?

I would welcome any suggestions. I'm so fed up!

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

Did you have a sample analysed? In a case I know they found that almost none of the healthy gut bacteria were contained in the sample (bc. of medication in her case) and they had to 'reseed' the gut to solve the problem. Took a while but worked.
How interesting. I did the reseed protocol

It was tough , not sure it worked
It’s why I avoid antibiotics
I could have a doctorate in constipation.
What I’ve found over the years is often it needs a more than one prong approach.

The key points are

1 hydration
2 diet
3 supplements
4 mobility
5 bowel massage techniques, making sure ileo cecal valve isn’t stuck and Houston valve moving freely

Popping into town and will write more if you wish when I return

I recently read a research paper that had looked into different diets for constipation, weirdly the most effective diet was meat only.
I’ll see if I can find it.
I mean, it’s extreme, but might be worth considering if you’re that desperate (pun not intended).

JemimaTiggywinkle · 29/01/2021 14:37

I find peppers and onions have quite an effect on my digestive system... do you like fajitas?

Also get a little stool (pardon the pun) to raise your feet off the floor when you’re on the toilet - makes things a lot easier.

I can’t find the specific paper, but if you look in google scholar there are a few articles that discuss carnivore diet and constipation, and evidence that fibre can actually cause constipation instead of easing it.

Syrup of figs from chemist if chronic. Been going donkeys years. Coffee is good. And better diet. Bran flakes fruit vegetables. Baked beans even.

@OneForTheRoadThen

I've not found a cure yet. I take Fybogel twice daily, drink 4 pints of water and have a minimum of 10 portions of fruit and veg daily but found nothing really works. Tried magnesium citrate, sugar free sweets, Movicol (really salty and just made me bloated even after 8 sachets a day for a week), suppositories and exercise. Also Laxative teas.

The only thing that helps me is Dulcolax ( tried all the natural laxatives too). I limit it to every fortnight as they're not great to take regularly and I have to take a double dose. That's literally the only thing that works for me.

This is EXACTLY what I do.

2 week flush out

Nightmare

Someone up thread lactose intolerance definitely try ruling that out, hidden in quite a lot of foods.

CottonSock · 29/01/2021 15:34

I'm taking a lot of iron so constipated. I'm now taking my daughter's macrogol. We buy dulcosoft as its tasteless. Can't stomach movicol, laxido or similar due to taste of salts.

CottonSock · 29/01/2021 15:36

And if that doesn't work, try a bowel stimulant. Our poo nurse recommended sodium picosulphate liquid and it worked miracles on my daughter.

RandomMess · 29/01/2021 15:52

I'm really affected by my menstrual cycle, eat more fruit and veg than anyone I know. Drives me crazy!

picklemewalnuts · 29/01/2021 15:57

What about a fatty meal? Fish and chips, a cooked breakfast? That helps some people.

RoxytheRexy · 29/01/2021 16:23

Have you tried from the other end? Bisacodyl suppositories are bombs. Can buy over the counter from a pharmacy

Darklane · 29/01/2021 16:30

Oddly enough black liquorice sweets can work wonders, just eat a few a day. The plain black ones like these.
liquorice

Tickledtrout · 29/01/2021 16:35

Turmeric supplement. Natural anti inflammatory

Dowser · 29/01/2021 18:12

I tend to vary what I have in my Arsenal..when working I leave alone until I run into a problem.
I have
Califig..syrup of figs
Movicol,
Flaxseed oil capsules
Senakot max strength
Reglucol
Triphala
Epsom salts, which are magnesium sulphate
Psyllium powder
High strength vit c capsules
Msm powder , which is sulphur
Prunes
Dates
Dried figs
Chia seeds
Concentrace..this is the salts from the lake in Utah . You need these electrolytes to help aid digestion
I’m gluten and lactose intolerant, so all that is cleared out of my diet and I’m not good with gluten free baked goods

I have regular monthly massages..and the therapist checks my ileo cecal valve to be sure it’s not stuck

I have home made gluten free oat muesli with dried fruits, walnuts, brazils, cashews and almonds, pumpkin ( good for getting rid of worms and parasites) , sunflower, sesame and chia seeds and topped with fresh fruit and coconut milk for breakfast every morning and a small protein meal with fresh steamed veg every evening. A home made veg soup for lunch.

At the moment I take 1 senakot and a couple of flax seed capsules every other day and a vit c

It might be a good idea to do a full parasite cleanse. It’s ok , we all have them
I still think dr hulda Clark’s is the best
You need wormwood, clove powder capsules and black hulled walnut tincture
Natures answer sell the tinctures and baldwins sell the clove capsules I think.
It’s amazing how them little beggars gum up the works.

Oohhh yes. When I was about 18 I discovered the really hard salted Swedish liquorice and didn’t realise the effects it could have so ate a whole bag before a night out. Suffice to say I did not manage to leave the bathroom that night Blush
RandomMess · 29/01/2021 18:49

Sadly I hate liquorice 😭
