Do you ever treat yourself?

We have been saving up hard for a house deposit over the last year and have done very well, In addition to paying off chunks of our debts from previous lives and making sure our current bills are straight.

I bought myself a new coffee cup after smashing the old one I loved by accident, and a new phone wallet because I keep losing my cards without one.

I feel guilty for it.

I have always been this way, I will often but little treats for myself (new wax melts for the house, new face cream but only if my skin is desperate for it) but rarely anything more expensive because I always feel a massive guilt over it. I’ve always felt this way. I’ve been dying to actually treat myself to make myself feel better, getting my hair done or my nails or some nice new jewellery —I know shouldn’t compare myself to others but People seem to splash out on these things on a normal, regular basis. My money often goes Either in savings, or on the house, on the children when they want or need anything, now and again on my partner I’ll get him a gift if he’s been working really hard or just to show some thought for him now and again.

How much of your money do you actually spend on yourself?

Well my dd is grown up now but Yeah I did/do, all the time. I promised myself I was never going to get into the habit of forgetting about myself and letting myself go but it is very easy to fall into that trap. All that said though obviously id always put DD first

I don't have children or a partner to consider but still feel the guilt about spending my own money on me. I am as tight as a mouse's fart but my savings balance is testament to my resourceful and frugal ways but as time and the years have gone by and the balance has gone up I feel even more guilt when I spend any of it.
I have spoilt myself recently with a new bed mattress and silk pillowcases so I suppose that's a treat for me only but also an essential spend as my old mattress was keeping me awake.
It's been so long in lockdown and the future still seems so far off right now I have no idea what I would treat myself to when normal life resumes but I know my red soles and pencil skirt have been resigned to history so maybe more sensible shoes.Sad

Oh yes! Bought myself some lovely perfume and make up for Christmas and my birthday!

All the time!! Used to be like you sound, v frugal and worried about overdraft etc. But now I buy myself bits and bobs whenever and importantly I use them - never save anything for best! The time is now.

What changed - pay rises, but also a realisation that I deserve and am worthy or treats and I don’t have to come last :) plus lockdown has added to the need for pick me ups!

I treat myself too much. Yet not enough...

I treat myself easily on the small things. £5 here and there on candles, takeaway coffee etc.

But £30 on a decent pair of boots, when the current pair are tattered... oh no, they'll last a bit longer, longer....oh this £10 primark pair will do.

I struggle with treating myself to anything decent...I have a wide range of excuses of why I don't need anything but the cheapest.

No, the £15 new look jeans will do for now....I'll buy better quality/looking/fitting ones when I've lost weight (note...I've never lost this weight when I next need jeans).

I can't afford the better phone...well I could if I had 1-2 less coffees per month...

Yes but I prioritise savings.
I’ll treat myself by thinking of something I really want, telling myself I can buy it after x date etc sometimes I might change my mind in there interim. I don’t like by things just for the sake of buying something, so the delay helps that.
I never feel guilty but I don’t just by loads of stuff I don’t want or need on a daily basis.

Yes but only really started to do so after we had built up savings as they were more important to me. I grew up with little and really enjoy treats now.

Treat the children often too. They see working hard brings nice rewards which is a good lesson to learn.
