Baby basket ideas

Hi, I’m putting together a basket of items for my daughter and son-in-law who are expecting their first baby in June.

I remember having something similar when she was born which I absolutely loved as it had things in it that I would never have thought about myself but I can’t remember what was in it ( it was 26 years ago!)

What would be your must haves and what would you like to receive in such a basket? I have got as far as baby shampoo and baby bath!

An in ear or forehead thermometer. We didn't think to buy one until dd was unwell for the first time. Same with teething powders.

I'm interested in this too - my DSS and his wife are having their first baby in May. Love the suggestion of the thermometer, will definitely get one of those.

I would try and find out what they have - also if they live in Scotland because the government issued baby boxes have a lot of essentials, was very impressed!

Consumables are fine because they will use them eventually but things like thermometers, baby scissors etc whilst useful you only need one - I got given 3 sets!

They might prefer money towards an item and you can just give a tiny gift - eg my kids got special teddy bears they still treasure as adults

My friends made me one of these!

There were:

Vests/Onesies
Baby blanket
Nappies
Wipes
Calpol
Sudacrem
Thermometer
Comforter
Teething rings
Rattle
Couple of books
Baby bath/moisturiser

They also put it all in a big washing type basket, which came in so helpful when baby was here with all the extra laundry! She's 2 and I still use that basket Grin

Lovely idea!
Baby hair brush, coconut oil based products for cradle cap/dry scalp, nail clippers, nose sucker and sterimar sea salt spray (nothing worse than a newborn with a blocked nose!), Calpol, dummies, nice wipes, muslins, tiny socks of various thickness (way better than scratch mitts), knitted booties, small teddy that you clip to the buggy, clips and shopping bags for the buggy/pram...

I'm very big on not having stuff you don't need, I've got an almost one year old and about to have a newborn and these things above are what I ended up having to go buy myself and use regularly! Blankets, suits, bibs etc are nice but people tend to gift those a lot anyway.

Also, a box of formula or some ready made bottles is a nice bonus if they're feeding that way. Some fancy boob cream for mum if not Smile

I'd go for things that you can never really have enough of with a newborn: wipes, bibs, muslins, nappy cream, cotton wool balls, we bought a Tommy Tippee grooming set that was a life saver (thermometer, hair brush, nail clippers, nail files, scissors, bogie sucker etc), maybe some vests, we went through loads with all the poonamis! If you want to get something for them, maybe a Just Eat voucher or similar for the first few days when they can't be bothered cooking?

Agree with lots of what pp have mentioned. Calpol, saline nose spray, coconut baby products. Love the idea of using a laundry basket as the basket! Maybe also include some vanish or napisan!
