IKEA PAX wardrobes. Are they worth the money?

Am looking at a 150x 236 wardrobe with some storage for around 400 delivered.

Do they last?
Or any other recommendations?

Very happy with ours, when we got ours about 10 years ago they seemed much sturdier than alternatives at a similar price point.

We found ours to be very good quality for the price.

I’ve never seen flat packed wardrobes of such good quality before.

I think to get better than PAX, you’d need to be looking at getting solid wood, built wardrobes. Not flat pack. So PAX are an excellent cheaper option.

Ours are 15 years old and still in perfect condition. They're very solid and the choice of interior fittings are great.

You probably won't find anything comparable for the price (many cheaper wardrobes aren't as deep so you struggle to hang things up and close the door) and there will be many options that cost a lot more but are not significantly better.

Have you checked your ceiling height? Ours are the 2 metre tall version because our ceilings are quite low. You need to build them on their backs and then stand them up and you need more than the height of the wardrobe to have enough space to do this.

We've had ours for 20 years. They've been dismantled and reassembled for house moves, travelled abroad, been abused by kids, and are still going strong. The only thing I'd be concerned about is whether the quality today is the same as back then. The last couple of things I've bought from IKEA to go with existing stuff (ingold chairs, hemnes drawers) are noticeably a cheaper version of their older version.

I agree and you probably need to add a 0 to the above price to get this, especially from Sharps, Neville Johnson etc.

Both my daughters have Pax wardrobes. They are so easy to put together and very sturdy.

They both have one mirrored door and a variety of different shelves/shoe racks and drawers and rails that we have been able to move about and swap as their needs have changed. I have a 9 year old and a 17 year old and suit both their needs equally

So we have 10, 15, 20 years, any advance on 20 years?

@FatCatThinCat. Our kitchen is from Ikea and only around 5 years old. Seems to be perfectly good quality, at least as good as the wardrobes and came with a 25 year guarantee.

The only reason I noticed is that I have the older versions and when you put them side by side it's very noticeable. If I didn't have the older ones I wouldn't have noticed the decline.

We have three sets in our home

One bedroom - 18 years old. Was originally set up for DS, a triple. who was quite tall so had the hanging rails high up abc pull out drawers below. Now reconfigured with shelf above, lower hanging rail and still drawers. The side single is now all shelves

We have a massive set in one room. Three doubles with glass sliding doors. I have lost count how many times the inside has been reconfigured. We’re going to reduce down to a double and single with mirrored fours when we redo that room. This one is about 12 or so years

Third is a double and single combo. Hanging and shelves in double, all pull out drawers on the single. We’ve changed doors a few times when redecorating. Now have the mirrors and DD loves it.

I don’t know if any other type of wardrobes you can do all this with. So yes, well worth it and they last. We have even taken two apart/ put back together when we had flooring changed in the bedrooms.

Yeah I think they're great. 2k cheaper than the quote we got from sharps and you can get a chippy to 'build them in' If you wish i.e put on a pelmet, edging etc.
I attached a length of 2x2 to the back wall and then screwed the pax into them for extra safety (I've heard horror stories of kids pulling wardrobes down!) but they're very sturdy.
You can design the insides of them on the ikea website which is fun.

Also as pp said, super handy for changing doors/ updating handles etc in the future instead of buying whole new ones
