My 8yo has been given £100 for online classes. What should she learn?

What would be a good, live online class to take right now? I don't usually have £ for stuff like this, and want it to be something fun without much writing. Needs to be 'live' and small group as she needs a 'connection'. Not science. Spanish? Would piano be rubbish online? kids yoga? What classes have your kids liked? Specific recommendations needed!

I would ask her what she would like to do. Hobbies/interests?
What inspires her?

I have done but she doesn't really know what classes would be like, I think. Likes music, dancing, creative things. I think she would like languages. I just don't know what classes would still be fun on Zoom, and what really needs to be in person.

Language class? Ds (almost 6) loves his zoom French classes.

Check out Outschool. She could do a few one off classes quite cheaply and see what sort of things she enjoys, then sign up to some longer courses.

Maybe an art class? Do they exist? That could be fun.
If she wants to learn a language that's great! Dancing is also fun! Maybe have a look online for previews/reviews/you tube videos of the classes. Look at dance, art and language and see which ones the funnest and best value for money?

TwigTheWonderKid · 27/01/2021 22:14

Have you looked at Outschool?

GoodbyeH · 27/01/2021 22:15

Sorry I'm not being more specific. But I do think it's based on the child themselves. You could research together?

My almost 8yr old dd has been doing Brownies via zoom and dance classes (but both were classes she took before the pandemic). Her dance school (ballroom) are offering first class free online. It's nowhere near the same as being in person but it's keeping the connectivity to her class and giving her something to do.

Eldest dd has done a few art classes. There are a few free ones on YouTube to see if she likes it. Dd (11) has drawn some amazing pictures over the last 12 months.

Art? A company local to me are doing them. They usually run as after school & holiday clubs, as well as adult classes. Happy to link the details if you think she'd like it.

We do online piano but it’s one to one. Maybe a cookery or art class? They might do them in groups. That said we do cubs with a large group but there’s not much interaction.

Another recommendation for Outschool - my 9yo has done some lovely art classes and there are tons of other options (support for schoolwork, dance, astronomy, science experiments, music, languages). It’s about $12 a class.

Sorry meant to add, they have a few on YouTube, so you can try before paying as well. My dc like them.

We have done art online but tbh you can find them for free on YouTube.
I can’t see the point of online music unless she has an instrument and can continue them if she enjoys them.
I’d look at Outschool and try confidence building, coding etc. They have themed fun classes like Harry Potter escape rooms too. I’d try to do something - anything - she can build on herself afterwards.
