How often do you eat fish?

We only eat it once a week, if that. Salmon, mackrel or cod. No-one really loves it but as it's so good for you, I try and serve it up weekly.

Just wondering if a marketing campaign to eat more fish might be coming, to make use of all the extra fish we can catch. Most coastal countries seem to eat loads of fish - I get the impression, UK not so much.

As an island nation, we should be eating more than we do, shouldn't we? I'm wondering if I could make 2 fishy meals a week - probably have to heavily disguise one Grin

Could you eat more fish?

Between 2-4 times a week.

I eat mackerel, sea bass, salmon, cod and haddock mainly. As well as scallops and prawns.
It is more expensive, but it’s often reduced at the end of the day and can be frozen.

Bags of frozen fillets are cheaper and perfect for pies and curry.

LizFlowers · 27/01/2021 21:26

Not often enough these days. I really like fish, adore salmon in all its forms. I had trout a while back and am still thinking about it - yum.

Next time I go shopping......

Scarby9 · 27/01/2021 21:27

Four days a week, probably but often twice in a day. But I love fish!
Salmon, fish pie, fish fingers, smoked mackerel, tinned tuna... All wonderful.

Very rarely!
Don’t like the taste of it and I don’t like the fishing industry either.

EscapedfromGN · 27/01/2021 21:31

It's difficult to get here. I used to buy more when we had a local fish monger.
We have fish once a week. Salmon or cod mainly. Haddock from the fish and chip shop. If it was cheaper we would eat it more.

DinosaurOfFire · 27/01/2021 21:31

Hmm, anywhere between 4 and 7 times a week, sometimes more if I had, say tuna for lunch and salmon for dinner. Im a pescatarian though so no meat. I also live near the coast which may influence things, there are a couple of big fishmongers in my town for example.

Inextremis · 27/01/2021 21:33

Much more in the summer than the winter - I'd eat it every day if I could, but DH isn't keen, so we probably have it once a fortnight in the winter, and once or twice a week in the summer. My favourite is pan fried smoked cod with duck eggs and chilli pickle on the side for breakfast :) Also very fond of skate/ray in black butter with capers, spicy baked salmon, halibut with creamed celeriac and crispy kale, salade Nicoise, Parmesan-crusted baked cod, scallops with bacon and black pudding, and good old prawn cocktails :)

Ninkanink · 27/01/2021 21:34

We aim to eat it twice a week for dinner and twice a week for lunch.

Catty1720 · 27/01/2021 21:39

@WouldstrokeTomHardy

I could eat more but family aren't keen. Pisses me off really but heyho
Exactly this I love fish
amusedbush · 27/01/2021 21:45

I rarely cook fish at home (maybe salmon every couple of months) but I often order it at restaurants.

DH is even less of a fish fan than I am but when we went to Turkey in 2019 the outdoor restaurant cooked sea bass on a flame grill and we both went mad for it. I think we had it for lunch five days out of the seven we were there!

kittlesticks · 27/01/2021 21:46

We usually have it twice a week - maybe Cajun salmon and salsa one night and prawn spaghetti another night, also always fish fingers as a lunch once a week for the kids, tuna for jacket potatoes and sandwiches. Sometimes I make kedgeree maybe once a month. Also smoked salmon as a weekend treat sometimes and sushi if we can buy it fresh.

DeeCeeCherry · 27/01/2021 21:46

Once or twice a week.

I'm on the verge of giving up though as it's dawned on me I just don't want to eat anything with a face, really (I don't eat meat). Then there's the environmental impact, of course.

If this is about supporting fishermen who've basically fucked up their own livelihoods - Nope. They got what they voted for and should be happy with that.

I also hope they don't get the £100,000 bail out each that they expect taxpayers to fund. So many people who have lost their jobs/businesses during pandemic were told to retrain/go on Universal Credit. No monetary compensation for them.

YepCuntyIsTaken · 27/01/2021 21:46

I don't mind eating fish, but I really don't like cooking it. So I eat it in restaurants. So fuck all really.

Apart from fishfingers - we all like fishfingers here & they are super easy to grill. But I don't think that's the point of the thread.

LegendDairy · 27/01/2021 21:48

3/4 times a week. There's always tinned mackerel and sardines in the cupboard for a quick salad or on toast. We've also got white fish fillets like coley or pollock in the freezer. Whether that be breaded pieces with veg or pasta or plain to cook in some sort of sauce. I love salmon especially smoked that is more for a treat because of the cost.

ceeveebee · 27/01/2021 21:48

3-4 times a week (for lunch or dinner). We have it delivered by a local fishmonger

HeyMicky · 27/01/2021 21:51

Twice a week. 2 fish, 3 veg, 2 meat

I would include in that salmon and tuna (fresh and tinned), whole mackerel or trout, all kinds of white fish, prawns, squid, scallops

sunflowersandbuttercups · 27/01/2021 21:52

Maybe once a month.

I don't really like the texture and it's expensive too. If I do eat it then it's tinned tuna or maybe smoked salmon.

gingercatsarebest · 27/01/2021 21:52

I gave recently decided to be more adventurous with my fish.,so this year we have tried rainbow trout and plaice. so far we have been impressed. .This week we are trying lemon sole. I try to keep to more sustainable and uk fish.

plus fish is so easy and quick to cook!

WomenAreBornNotWorn · 27/01/2021 21:55

I've never eaten fish. Yet another beautiful creature abused by humans.

Bloodybridget · 27/01/2021 21:57

I love fish and seafood, we have baked or sometimes pan fried fillets of salmon, trout or sea bass at least every couple of weeks, and I have some good cod stew recipes. Linguine with prawns, prawns in paella, fish and chips, fish pie, all favourites.

Bloodybridget · 27/01/2021 21:59

Ooh and in summer, salade Niçoise made with fresh tuna. Kedgeree any time.

Danceisforlife · 27/01/2021 22:02

I don't eat fish (or any animal) anymore. My daughter is training to be a marine biologist and says over fishing is the biggest threat to our planet.

Tobleronehouses · 27/01/2021 22:05

Twice a week minimum. Once on a Friday evening, and once usually for a week day lunch.

Mominatrix · 27/01/2021 22:10

Minimum twice a week. Usually 3-4 times a week.
