Paris Hilton is doing "the IVF" ...

madmara · 27/01/2021 20:21

because she wants boy/girl twins and IVF is the only way that "100%" it will happen.

In fact she thinks IVF is "something every woman should do" because then you get to choose the sex of your baby (or babies if you fancy multiples).

Jesus wept. Are her doctors too afraid to mention to her that while they can put two embryos in, they mightn't both implant? If she only gets pregnant with one, will she return it because it's not what she ordered?

She said this on a podcast "The Trend Reporter". It's about 7 minutes in if, like me, you read the news article but didn't believe it, and want to listen to it yourself.

It's like when people with infertility problems have to smile and nod when someone says "just do IVF" as if it's a magic pill but she says she's had the egg collection so why hasn't somebody explained this to her!

Absolutely disgusting, and for so many reasons. Gender selection being one.
But also no one should CHOSE to have twins, let alone be encouraged or sending out the message it's the best thing ever. Multiple pregnancies means additional risks for the babies. Why would you want your babies to have a difficult start in life? I guess she never had to deal with NICU stays, additional needs from premature births, growth restriction.... I hope her doctors will advice her better.
It should be illegal allowing this on purpose.

Yep she’s as dim as l suspected, as it doesn’t work like that. She statistically is more likely is to get no baby, than boy / girl twins. It often doesn’t work at all or only 1 takes. I had IVF at the exact same age as her in the UK, they transferred 2 embryos. I’m sure in America the person with the cash book instructs what they want; high number of embryo transfers and sex selection being a thing. Sex selection is illegal in many countries and rightly so

IVF isn’t as easy as she appears to think, she can’t outsource the physical and emotional part of it unless she’s going with donor eggs. Even then it’s hardly easy

I know but money talks doesnt it? There must be something in it if practically ever A lister in Hollywood has done so successfully. Almost without exception and even as far as not bothering to carrying them but to put another woman thrpugh it for them. Watching that interesting show about Amy Schumers pregnancy I wouldnt be surprised if shes the next one to use a surrogate.

Maybe our nhs ivf is so regulated its not as successful as having it abroad?

IVF is a numbers game so obviously the more cycles you do, then the more likely it to succeed. I had 1 round of IVF and it was a massive failure, just created a load of genetically abnormal embryos that works never work. This was the work of one of the “best” IVF clinics in London. Total cost around £20k all in, for me it’s prohibitively expensive for another round. For Paris or a Hollywood star then lm sure it’s relatively easy to do it several times financially

Good point @EachandEveryone clinics typically abroad are more successful due to more relaxed rules and better technology. E.g. l researched a clinic and one thing they say was they would transfer 3 embryos. But like l said to my fiancé there is a (small) chance they may all work. The UK and USA aren’t that cutting edge with IVF

WhatKatyDidNxt · 28/01/2021 13:55

Meant to write: that would never work

SinkGirl · 28/01/2021 13:56

Really fucks me off, as a parent of twins.

Twin pregnancy is no joke, and significantly higher risk than a singleton pregnancy, even with dizygotic twins. Both of my twins have disabilities and the risks for various complications, health conditions and disabilities are higher with multiples - why would you choose to take that risk unless you’re a couple on the last round of IVF you can afford and want to increase your chances (I know quite a few twin parents who were in that situation). It’s irresponsible and infuriating.

WhatKatyDidNxt · 28/01/2021 14:04

@SinkGirl yep it’s concerning she thinks IVF and twins are a walk in the park. My dads family is full of twins and l know it’s tough! I think too many people just think about the cuteness of twins, rather than the demanding realities

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 28/01/2021 15:44

@ChateauMargaux

How can IVF be so successful for these celebrities when the realities are that there is only a 25% success rate?
The one celebrity I know here in the US had several failed rounds of IVF then gave up trying.
SinkGirl · 28/01/2021 16:07

Because they don’t have underlying fertility issues in the first place

EachandEveryone · 28/01/2021 16:31

True

WhatKatyDidNxt · 28/01/2021 17:27

There are still no guarantees with IVF even if the couple have no fertility issues. There is lots of chance involved in it all. Unfortunately there’s lots about fertility that even fertility doctors don’t understand

SinkGirl · 28/01/2021 17:37

Oh of course, but obviously your chances are much improved if both parties have no existing difficulties.

It’s sounds daft now but I thought it was odd how many celebrities had twins in the last few years - it never occurred to me they were doing it on purpose given what a complete nightmare challenge it is. Easier when you have staff though I’m sure!

WhereDoMyBluebirdsFly · 28/01/2021 18:15

Why would celebrities want to have twins though, rather than just have two children one after the other? Is it to limit their pregnancy downtime, like an extreme form of efficiency? I just don't understand it.

SinkGirl · 28/01/2021 18:18

There is that - if you’re an actress, two pregnancies is a long time to be out of work, getting back into shape etc. Plus people see it as more interesting, special etc. I often see people saying “oh I would love to have twins” and I don’t understand it at all, but then my reaction to finding out was horror. I cannot comprehend doing it to yourself on purpose 😬

WhatKatyDidNxt · 28/01/2021 19:11

@SinkGirl oh definitely, it’s about odds. It’s like trying to throw a 6, is easier with a few dice rather than only having 1
