Ideas for lockdown half term

Hello all, I thought people might like to share ideas for things to do with our dc over half term. I am usually out at work so booked the week off - being at home still holds some novelty for me (for which I am very grateful...) but my 12 year old DD has been home schooling (dad furloughed, at home). I was thinking a couple of hikes with snacks etc, a home spa day (doing nails, face mask, hair), baking and movies. But, we do a lot of that at the weekend anyway. It'd be nice to have some quality time as separate to the 'just together most of the ' time! Any suggestions?

I asked my just 13-year-old, she wants to have a day wearing pyjamas all day watching films and have McDonald’s drive through!

Can you embark on a project? Decorating a room, upcycling a piece of furniture, if you can sew help her to make herself something to wear?
Or maybe a voluntary project? I know where I am, community teams are looking for volunteers to help with half term meal support for vulnerable families, lots of different jobs, sorting donations, cooking, delivering meals, baking cakes etc.

Great ideas, thank you. Will do a pj day and drive thru! I also like the helping out idea, will have a look in my area. A project is right up my street but sadly I have no crafting ability! I enjoy decorating but DD won't SmileI'm trying to think of other projects now...we could definitely make something. Maybe a massive painting together.

I've booked the week off but haven't actually given it anymore thought.

Think we might need to come up with a few ideas...

My kids are going to help with cooking some out of the ordinary foods - current plan is for sushi one night and a medieval banquet another day.

Could do a kind of restaurant game, getting dc to make and bring us various foodstuffs!!! I'm liking this one 🤔

Another favourite of mine is get everyone to have a clear out and get the kids to eBay things, they keep the money. Win, win! Get rid of loads of junk, they get some cash and are kept busy!

Would she be interested in planning something like your next ideal holiday, when lockdown ends and travel is permitted? Thinking destination, flights, accommodation, trips etc. You could set the budget, so that she wasn't planning something completely unrealistic.
Get her to plan a 3 course dinner for the family, take her to supermarket to buy the ingredients and then let her cook it. Maybe make is "posh" so that she has to write a menu, get the best crockery out and you wear your best clothes.
Make bath bombs.
Sort out all those photos that you have lying around, mainly of her!!, and put them in albums.
Work out how to make virgin cocktails, and have a cocktail evening.
Each choose your favourite film, and force the other to watch it! If possible, choose your favourite film from when you were 12.
Card evening. Bingo evening if there are enough of you to play.
Get some windowsill gardening kits and grow your own herbs.
Do a big jigsaw together.

Hello. My DD was born at 27 weeks 5 days weighing 1lb 12.05oz and she has recently turnt up one. We had a long 3 month stay in NICU and still under consultant care, DD came home on oxygen, had a bleed on the brain, has chronic lung disease, a PDA & a suppressed immune system meaning she has a monthly RSV jab.

At her recent Neonatal consultant appointment we have been referred to a physio, my concern is that my daughter is one years old (corrected 9 months). She has only just gone into 3-6 Month clothing, she occasionally rolls over but that’s it. She will will only roll one way, she does not sit up unaided and of course doesn’t pull her self etc, If I hold her up in a standing position she will pull her legs up and cross them unless she is in her jumperoo she will tip toe.
I have done the worst thing and googled and everything is coming up as Cerebral palsy, of course I pray this is not the case. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so what has been your outcome.

Many thanks

@MPDnicu I'm so sorry that you're worried about your LO.

Please can you start your own thread so that you can get some MNers with experience replying to you?

The Chat or Premature Birth topics might be a good place to post Thanks
