Argh, hurts like fuck. Been in paracetamol and ibuprofen plus heat packs all day. Been alternately resting up and pottering about. It needs to get better soon. Have an eight month old tank and four year old to look after and luckily DH had the day off today but he'll be working from tomorrow.

Any tips? Or sympathy, I'll take some sympathy Sad

Sympathy coming your way OP, I have chronic back problems so I know how shit it is.

Unreasonabubble · 27/01/2021 18:37

You can have masses of sympathy!!!! I fractured my back 6 weeks ago and the pain and exhaustion is out of this world. Feels like I have a massive slipped disc.

Lots of Flowers Gin and in case you are not a drinker Brew

TheLifeAndDeathBrigade · 27/01/2021 18:38

Thanks @unreasonabubble. Am tempted to open some wine but not sure that'd do my liver any good on top of the painkillers. It might help me relax though Confused

Aww, this is just shit, op, I know. This happens to me a few times a year. It's a muscle spasm and they are simply horrible. As hard as it is, the best thing to do is to keep moving as much as possible. Take it very easy, move slowly, but try to keep moving. Heat helps and if you can get a muscle relaxer that helps, too.

TheLifeAndDeathBrigade · 27/01/2021 18:40

And sorry, so self involved. Yours sounds much worse than mine, I hope you're recovering ok and can access the care and support you need at the moment, covid just makes everything that but harder doesn't it. I had surgery 3 weeks ago as well so this is just as I was starting to feel more normal again Hmm

Sympathy here too I had to move down the table for a screening that put me out for an very painful few days. Get as much hot water bottle gentle heat on it as many painkillers your allowed. Hugs.

TheLifeAndDeathBrigade · 27/01/2021 18:41

Thanks @Aquamarine1029 can you tell me an example of a muscle relaxer? I've got some decent painkillers leftover from surgery a few weeks ago but trying not to take them as I'm still feeding by little one.

I've used Voltarol gel on my back (two ruptured discs impinging sciatic nerve) but a TENS machine was an absolute godsend.

Wolfiefan · 27/01/2021 18:45

If it’s muscular I was told by a physio to lean up against a wall with a tennis ball wedged between my back and the wall. And wiggle! Looks mental but it is a lovely massage.
And sympathy. Lots. Back pain is awful.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/01/2021 18:45

I got a few diazepam from my doctor. I took them before bed and it really helped. I wouldn't have any alcohol with them, though.

Whoateallthechocolate · 27/01/2021 18:45

Can you afford an osteo or a physio? They're working at the moment. I did my back ten days ago, was in agony for 36 hours and then got an appt with an osteo and the pain eased for the first time. It felt very odd meeting someone I'd never met face to face and being so close to them when DH and I are wfh with the DC home schooling so haven't really seen anyone for weeks but it felt clean and safe as they had clear processes in place. My back had completely seized and I think I'd still be really struggling if it wasn't for her. I appreciate I'm fortunate though as I could afford it.

Findahouse21 · 27/01/2021 18:46

I find alternating ice and heat helps wheen I get muscle spasms in my back

mbosnz · 27/01/2021 18:48

Sympathy and sisterhood here - I've been in mortal agony since Monday, when my back went when I was cleaning the toilet. Turns out doing housework can be very bad for your health.

Frenchblue · 27/01/2021 18:50

I’ve done this too and it’s really sore, love the sound of the tennis ball though.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/01/2021 18:51

@mbosnz

Mortal agony is exactly right. I would prefer to give birth again than deal with a back spasm, and I'm not kidding. Every single time my back has freaked out I was doing something ridiculously normal and simple. Last time I was putting away the olive oil in the cupboard.

Cornishcrops · 27/01/2021 18:52

When I injured my back, I saw an osteopath. He told me to get someone to apply pressure using a tennis ball on the area that hurt. It desensitized the area. It hurts really bad when the pressure is applied but breathe through the pain and it eases it completely.

Unreasonabubble · 27/01/2021 18:53

Tramadol has been my friend! See if your GP will prescribe that for you. It is a controlled drug BUT they will do a prescription for a limited amount (1 week at a time). Good stuff!

TheLifeAndDeathBrigade · 27/01/2021 19:00

Thanks for all the suggestions. Don't think GP will be up for prescribing me and good drugs as I'm breastfeeding Sad

Will try heat, ice, massage, movement and wine and if no improvement look for an osteo.
