Does a walk really make you feel better? I find it bollocks.

“Go for a walk....It’ll make you feel better.”

Jesus. If I hear that one more time!!

Up at 5am. Working 40+ hours a week. Home-schooling. Providing nutritious meals and clean clothes. Shopping for relatives. It is never-ending.

But apparently, if I manage to find just ANOTHER half hour in the day to get out for a walk (as well as the extra half hour to cajole DCs into going out and dressing in full winter gear), I will feel better.

Well I can tell you, I have tried it. Several times now. And it doesn’t work.

Biggest lie of the pandemic 😬

The 15 minute walk to walk to work does me the world of good. Earphones in , volume up, my own little sanctuary

Iheartmysmart · 26/01/2021 23:02

Nope, does nothing for me. Live in a flat and have a dog so probably go out for a walk five times a day normally anyway. My dog is now 10 so that’s a lot of walks! I would rather disembowel myself with a teaspoon to relax.

IDKNABYBIF22 · 26/01/2021 23:02

I love a walk, but on my own or with a friend, not kids!

davidsSchitt · 26/01/2021 23:03

Nope. Can't stand it. Boring

Megan2018 · 26/01/2021 23:04

Walking is shit.
I ride happily in all weather, but I bloody hate walking. I do it to walk the toddler, but it’s not in any way enjoyable.

ZippedyDooDa · 26/01/2021 23:14

Totally agree OP. Maybe it works for people who have the time for a walk. If one more person says it to me my head will explode.

Legseleven1990 · 26/01/2021 23:14

A walk makes me feel better. But to be honest it's because I've left my kids at home and am listening to Fleetwood mac full blast on my headphones and sneaking lindor out of my pockets.

Those stupid walks with kids who stop to pick up every pissing stick and kick every stone so that it takes you 45 mins just to get to the end of your street can fuck off.

ichundich · 26/01/2021 23:17

One of my kids pretty much hates walks, so we don't go on them 'too often" - maybe twice a week currently. The rest of the week we go to parks (playgrounds), rollerskating, skateboarding or do a HIIT workout in the garden. That way it's little bit more varied. I personally don't enjoy it much most of the time, but the kids don't complain and get the exercise and fresh air they need.

I walk with a friend at a social distance and found it really helpful partly being outside but also speaking to someone outside my household

LetItGoGo · 26/01/2021 23:20

Yes I walk much further with someone to distance me too.

LetItGoGo · 26/01/2021 23:20

Distract!

toocold54 · 26/01/2021 23:20

Getting ready to go out is horrible - once I’m out and afterwards I feel a million times better.

Fresh air and exercise will always be good for you.

BejeweledCrocs · 26/01/2021 23:21

I love a walk. Alone. With a podcast.

Can't have one though cos single parent to small child.

Sigh.

I don't mind walking but I could do without the patronising bollocks the Scottish Government have come up with (nanny state).

Does a walk really make you feel better? I find it bollocks.

On work days I get up, shower, do hair, makeup, put on nice clothes, work, go for a walk at lunchtime. On not work days I tend to knock about in loungewear and no makeup, have a bath in the afternoon, and no walk. I feel mentally better on the walk days, but I think it’s about the bigger picture rather than the walk. It seems daft to make an effort just to walk the streets, but maybe I do need to do that.

Not with dc but on my own I love it.I walk 4-6 miles a day listening to stand up comedy Smile
