Starting this on the back of the thread about songs that take your breath away. How about songs that just make you want to dance? "New Shoes" by Paolo Nutini is one of my favourites ......

This week it's My Gypsy Auto Pilot by Gogol Bordello. Last week it was Malandrino, by Gogol Bordello. The before, another Gogol Bordello song. 😁

I got really into GB over the Christmas break and I've been relying on them to keep my spirits up.

BeautifulStar · 26/01/2021 20:39

Anyone else find if they think too long and hard about some memories theses songs trigger, the nostalgia is almost slightly painful? Hope that's a normal reaction grin

I was just listening to my 90’s Spotify soundtrack and “little fluffy clouds” by the Orb came on and I choked up! I think it’s a mix of brilliant memories and also the realisation that dc’s may not have things like clubbing/raves in their golden years. They just don’t dance nowadays do they? I danced my arse off every single weekend from the age of 15 to having kids basically!

FirstladyKirkman · 26/01/2021 20:45

JLo - On the floor
AVH - You don't even know me
The Killers - Mr Brightside
Tina Turner - Proud Mary
Kungs - This Girl (banger!)
Yvonne Elliman - If I can't have you
Cheryl Lynn - Got to be real

Oh and ANYTHING by Steps. I was a teenager in the late 90's and know all the dance routines, and I don't even care if that's sad.

Fuck, now I want to go to a pub and get sloshed 😭😭😭

Ha! Me too. We were so lucky to have had those times without the worry our moves would end up on social media!

And after all that dancing, the chippy on the way home always tasted amazing. Then wake up Sunday to cups of tea in bed watching Dermot on E4 Grin

But absolutely, Steps were flippin brilliant. I used to work away a lot and would drive home from Liverpool on a Friday afternoon and sing along to Steps Gold.

Totally agree, I think those of us who grew up in the kind of clubbing era with lots of socialising- I remember one Christmas holidays home from college going out like 10 nights in a row - assumed that our children would grow up to have the same kind of fun and experiences. We probably worried that they would get through it without damage, taking too many drugs etc. Now I worry that their future actually looks quite dull and serious. I think girls in particular seem to worry far more about how they look going out than having fun going out. If they go out at all (this is in normal times obviously). I guess everyone looks back on their formative years as the best era but I definitely think that late 80s and particularly early-mid 90s period was a real time of fun and hedonism and good vibes and of possibility.
