Trainer seats driving me mad! Where do you keep your toddlers toilet seat!?

Whyismycatanasshat · 25/01/2021 18:27

I currently have two just two year olds in my house, my DD and my DN who is living with me for now. My DD is showing interest in toilet training so has a training toilet seat, having refused a potty and now DN is trying to copy her and has his own trainer seat despite being (in my opinion) no where near training ready.

But they are both unceremoniously dumped on the floor under the sink, and it’s driving me mad; where does anyone else keep these blasted plastic necessities! Or does everyone else just plonk them down on the floor!

It appears the combo adult child toilet seat is the popular choice in my mums group - they all laughed at my dumping the seats under the sink! That or having a designated children’s bathroom - not a luxury I can have!

Funny how the little things wind you up isn’t it!

I just pop it next to the loo. It's maybe not the tidiest but it's not like I have a lot of guests right now!

kowari · 25/01/2021 18:34

Ours was just on the loo. I would either sit on it or take it off and put it back on afterwards so it was ready for DS. I don't see why they need one each?

vickylou78 · 25/01/2021 18:37

Mine is plonked on floor by the sink too!! Once daughter in bed I plonk it in the bath so it's out the way. Don't think there is a solution but it's annoying as it's not till they are about 5 that their bottoms are big enough to not fall down the loo so it's two years of this!

Next to the loo, yep just plonked on the floor along with the baby bath support seat and the ikea step- kids ruin houses Wink

TierFourTears · 25/01/2021 18:40

Yep, switch in the seats with 2 sizes of seat.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/01/2021 18:41

We got the double adult/ child seat.
They still use the smaller one at 7/ 10.

Whyismycatanasshat · 25/01/2021 18:41

@kowari I thought of leaving one on but you can’t close the lid as DD’s has daft handles - she chose it!

The have one each because DN was so happy at the supermarket when he saw a paw patrol one and the wee lad hasn’t got much of his own (without saying too much, he’s not had an easy life so far, hence he’s with me for now) so I thought what’s the harm.
And now it’s double the clutter in a small bathroom!

We have those shelves that are made up of metal bars, so I got a metal S hook and use it to hang the seat off there. It is tucked in an alcove behind the door though, I’m not sure I’d want it on display like that on the main wall of the bathroom! But it gets it off the floor at least.

Whyismycatanasshat · 25/01/2021 18:44

And alas, my house had a brand new bathroom suite and cloakroom toilet fitted just before I bought it and the toilets are both square so I can’t get a double one - I spent much quality time looking for a square double seat, D shape ones are available but I couldn’t find one that was the full square.

@GoryGilmore I definitely don’t want DD’s in my eye line when perched on the loo or in the bath... it has eyes!

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 25/01/2021 18:48

We never used one. They are not a necessity!

GoryGilmore · 25/01/2021 18:48

Ha! We’ve also used the same technique to hang DC’s collapsible potty and Shnuggle baby bath! It was driving me insane having it all over the floor.

GoryGilmore · 25/01/2021 18:49

Though to be fair, it is the family bathroom. I wouldn’t have their stuff in the en-suite where I go to relax!

LaMarschallin · 25/01/2021 18:50

Another one who never bothered with one; just used to hold them to support them.

spaceghetto · 25/01/2021 18:51

I have one of tbose three seats in one so you just lift it up for the smaller seat. Was only £10 in screwfix

Whyismycatanasshat · 25/01/2021 18:51

@MNnicknameforCVthreads alas without one I’d be fishing toddlers out the toilet each time!
The toilets are ridiculously square shaped and large. I hate them but they were weeks old when I bought the house a few years ago so really can’t justify ripping them out!

We had one but apart from as a novelty it was never used by my three. They just learned to balance. I did have a little step though for the loo and tooth brushing.

TJ17 · 25/01/2021 18:58

They do toilet seats with them attached!
It's much better, I couldn't wait to get rid of the trainer seat

Oh sorry just read this. Is it properly square or D shape? As ours is a D shape
Whyismycatanasshat · 25/01/2021 19:00

@TJ17 that would be ideal if my toilets weren’t stupid square shaped monstrosities!
I have searched high and low for suitable family seats and they don’t seem to exist!

OP posts:
Whyismycatanasshat · 25/01/2021 19:02

@TJ17 they are truly square shaped; I can only find the U or D shaped family seats .

We also just have ours unceremoniously dumped on the floor, along with two potties (note to self: get rid of at least one potty). It also drives me a bit mad, but DS won't poo with someone else in the room so holding him on the loo seat is definitely not an option!

ChimaeraEgg · 25/01/2021 19:05

We had one for a bit but it was a PITA so we got rid and he just went straight on the loo.

xyzandabc · 25/01/2021 19:11

We never had one, 3 kids. Just held them for the 1st little while but they soon got the hang of balancing themselves without falling in. Easier to then take them places where a special seat might not be available. Though I appreciate no one is going anywhere at the moment so that might not be an issue for a while!

Alternatively would a training seat fit in something like this?
