Good quality cups and mugs!

Boring topic I know! I need to find good quality crockery to kit out our work staff room for when everyone is back in the office. Money isn’t an issue, £15k has just been spent on a coffee machine so we need good quality kitchenware to go with it. Mainly coffee mugs and cups and sauces but also good quality water glasses etc. Help!

We like mugs from sainsbury, they're sort if rounded but not, fit in the hand really comfortably.

Thank you! I will have a look at their website!

Devils advocate - surely you want disposable stuff during Covid? We dumped all reusable stuff in the office for the few that are going in. Paper cups, wooden cutlery.

But in normal times we had IKEA glasses, regular branded mugs... Nothing fancy as shit gets broken (and if it was super nice maybe stolen?)

Maricoco · 25/01/2021 21:42

Le Crueset?

BikeRunSki · 26/01/2021 07:25

Actually, thinking about it, every office I have ever worked it (8 over 25 years) has had IKEA cutlery and crockery. I initially said Denby because ime of my personal crockery it’s really hard wearing, but as pp said, it’ll get pinched.

My office kitchen has just been restocked from M&S. It's all very nice. Shame no one is in to use it all!

Muitolegal · 26/01/2021 07:31

I have had the same task and used John Lewis :)

Retrogal · 26/01/2021 07:33

Denby for sure. 20 years ago, I worked in a large print factory and we had a big client meeting. The PA was assembling the teas an coffees and dropped one of the Denby cups. She picked it up and said "good ole Denby, bounce don't break". I've always remembered that! I've got lots of Denby myself now

Ifailed · 26/01/2021 07:34

I have never worked in an office that had cups & saucers, always mugs and paper cups.

I have Le Creuset mugs, they are gorgeous.
I also love Denby halo crockery.

Frodont · 26/01/2021 07:39

Le Crueset are the most hard-wearing but I'm sure M and S or JL is fine.

EssentiallyDelighted · 26/01/2021 07:39

We've got a total mixture at work, when we did the kitchen up someone bought plain white mugs from several places to try out as well as all the ones people have brought in from home. There is a set of plain white bone china ones, these are always first to get used, then there are some really thick chunky white ones (bit like a plainer smaller Sports Direct mug) which get left till last. I agree Sainsburys stuff is good, we have their water tumblers at home and a few random mugs.

NotMeNoNo · 26/01/2021 07:42

Get a batch from a catering suppliers like Nisbets, they have hotel quality ranges. Denby is great but it gets discontinued.

We have company logo mugs, nice ones, they make it obvious if nicked. I think cups and saucers should be consigned to history though!

LividLoving · 26/01/2021 07:44

£15k on a coffee machine.

Imma take my “cushy public sector” teaching job and come work at your place. What qualifications will I need? Love of coffee? Tick. Grin

What a massive waste of money. Being washed in a bowl of hot soapy water or run through the dishwasher is fine.

EssentiallyDelighted · 26/01/2021 07:52

We're still using ours too, everyone puts their own stuff in the dishwasher, all the touch points are sanitised several times a day and we wash our hands every time we come into the kitchen, no need for disposable stuff.

They’re nice but most of them are out of stock.

I’ve always had Ikea crockery in every staff room I’ve used but if your employers have £15k to blow on a coffee machine, I can’t imagine they’re too bothered about getting good value for money!

NotMeNoNo · 26/01/2021 07:57

IKEA 365+ range is simple, contemporary and all works together.

This. The only thing we do differently is not make tea/coffee for each other any more. There's a sanitising station on the wall beside the kettle used before we touch anything, then we return everything to the dishwasher ourselves.

Disposable crockery and cutlery is needlessly wasteful in a time when we're already going through tons upon tons of single use PPE every day.

EssentiallyDelighted · 26/01/2021 08:08

Yes, we used to make rounds of drinks for each other and that has stopped, at the most we fill the kettle up enough for the next person now.

WildRosie · 26/01/2021 08:14

I'm struggling to get past the £15,000 for a coffee machine but, anyways, Churchill China is widely used in pubs and restaurants. Luminarc/Arc and Ravenhead do simple but tasteful glassware. Dartington is nicer still.

chickychicchic · 26/01/2021 08:22

I would agree with IKEA the glass's are solid and the cups nice and sturdy too

Have a stock of spares to replace broken ones

Is there many in the office? Could you get ones with names so people are responsible for their own? Our biggest issue is mugs being left around the warehouse
