Does anyone else really want a new job...

But can’t go there because of the current “situation” Grin
I keep looking at jobs that seem perfect but can’t risk the change when I have a child at home remote learning and a decent wfh set up..
Appreciate lucky to have a job full stop right now but still.

I do, but it's not the right stage in my life yet my youngest are too small still and I don't have the time to commit. I will make the move one say though.

Yes!

I was starting to look for a new job when the first lockdown hit. I’d been where I am for 5 years at that point, gone as far as I can go, no route to promotion and feeling bored and undervalued.

But I sat tight through most of 2020, feeling lucky to have a job at all and especially one that I know well enough to be able to manage my time and have minimal stress during lockdown.

But, but, but...I got twitchy again towards the end of the year and applied for something else...and have now been shortlisted for interview. It’s better money and would be a real step up for me - but I am absolutely bricking it!!! Grin. Suddenly thinking I don’t know if I want to upset the status quo and maybe I should just sit tight a bit longer. Grass is always greener, eh?!

Until 2 yrs ago I worked in a school. Boy I'm glad I’m no longer there with the current situation!

I worked term time for 8 years and it was time to leave and get more hours and money. Now working in a great place with great people and 4 days a week.

Would definitely bot change and im planning on staying till retirement.

Changeismyname · 25/01/2021 07:35

I nearly took a job offer before Christmas. Very glad I didn’t now.

Yep, I'm sat here with a knot of anxiety in my stomach as I have to turn my laptop on in 5 minutes.
I have a new job, wfh, in my field but a lesser role than I was in before, they are sending me tasks more suitable to my previous higher role, basically paying me a fraction of my previous wage but expecting me to do the higher role, it's technical stuff that someone without my background couldn't do.
I can't just quit as I need another job first so I'm desperately looking and trying not to just tell them to stick it

NoGoodPunsLeft · 25/01/2021 07:45

Definitely! I'm pretty much expected to do a full time job in 24 hours Sad id like a sideways move internally but we've had redundancies with more on the horizon so just trying to do as much as I can whilst home schooling.

Is negotiating more money possible? I hate it when employers take advantage like this so I feel for you Flowers

I like my job (wfh, 3 days a week) but its not very well paid, so I'm applying if there's anything I see I like without a London commute...by the time I get a job, work my notice, and the DBS check comes back I figure it'll be Easter.

(I have childcare and DH is in charge of homeschooling though as he has flexible working)

BabyYodaYada · 25/01/2021 07:55

This was me last year. I took the leap and glad I did. I was miserable in my old job. But when covid hit, the workload reduced, I was able to WFH and I was quite happy. Then by the summer, it picked back up but because of complications caused by lockdown etc, a difficult job just got a million times harder.

I applied for a new job in the same company on a different site. Despite more travelling and having to go into the office, it was worth it in my mind. I wasn't sure I wanted the job. There were loads of little hiccups to getting the interview that just made me think 'why bother?' I'm glad it did it though because it was the perfect job and they offered me the option to WFH because I was already. I'm much happier now.

Ledkr · 25/01/2021 08:25

I took a new, lesser paid job but with far less stress, which i strated at xmas.
I was previously wah but now cannot and with the schools closed im now pretty fucked and am struggling.
Still dont regret it tho as my old job (sw) was killing me.

ElectraBlue · 25/01/2021 08:36

Yes!

I had 2 interviews last week and more coming this week.

I started a new role early last year but I can't stand the CEO/organisation, so I am looking again.

I have promised myself I will no longer work for those odious middle- aged, white, male manager: full of his own importance, patronising as hell but absolutely appalling at everything.

The job itself is not bad but the money is not great and I really can't deal with the stress of reporting to an idiot anymore...

Antinori86 · 25/01/2021 09:16

Changed jobs during the pandemic but was nerve-wracking. But the opportunity was perfect (more money, more responsibility, exactly the next step in my career I had been intending to make etc.).

Caveats: child-free (and intending to remain this way); DH in FT work; both we and I have savings cushions; did my due diligence on security of new job as thoroughly as I could.

Pleased I did it - have been given permission to add/hire a member to my team so hopefully they aren't considering reducing our team any time soon.

Also my old workplace said they were financially secure during Covid - and then in Dec (few months after I left) they made many people redundant.

Settling in virtually has been tougher though, and definitely taking longer.

Still a bit nervy thought. Am saving all of extra salary - just in case!
