Best cake tins for amateur baker?

I’ve recently taken up baking and I am loving it! My aim is to make some great cakes for various occasions this year. My only problem is I have a couple of reaaaallly basic tins which are only about an inch deep. Can anyone recommend tins which will help me create beautiful thick sponges? The cheaper the better, I don’t have much expendable cash at the moment! Thank you in advance!

You need paper cake tin liners. The you can put them inside the tins and you can fill the liners over the tops of the tins. They work a treat.

TK Maxx/homesense usually do decent ones for a good price. Get a pair of Victoria sandwich tins, you won't regret it Smile.

I also have a loaf tin, springform pan and a ceramic tart form and between all of those I can make most baking recipes.

The ceramic tart one was only a fiver from Wilkinson and refuses to die so I can replace it with a Le Creuset Grin

I agree with PP. I have a loaf tin, 2 springform cake tins and a few cheap cake dishes along with a cupcake tray. Most of them were sourced from Wilko or TK Maxx and are still going. Normal flat trays with some baking paper on top can also work for scones and cookies/biscuits. Start small and then work your way up. I find that a springform tin is versatile for cheesecakes and other sponges and cakes. Cupcake tins can be good for muffins and cupcakes as well as baked egg goods and pancake muffins. I try to get as much use out of things as possible.....as you can probably tell.
