Help me get over my creative block

I would like to do something creative, not much else to do at the moment! I quite like to draw but am useless so I dont do it, I would like to try painting but again would probably be useless. Thought about knitting or cross stitch but I just have a big mental block and unless I feel I would be good at it I dont want to try/start.
How can I get over this and just do something for fun?
With drawing I can be ok ish at copying rather than drawing from scratch. I used to be anyway.

You could make something that will be eaten or used in some way so it doesn't last very long. That way it's not hanging around being "not perfect" for too long?! Music is another way to be creative.
Otherwise you just need to begin. On anything.

I have recently gotten over a block. I have been meaning to learn a new piece of drawing software to start a portfolio but was procrastinating as it's the first learning/effort hump that is hardest.

I decided to spend 1-2 hours per day on it for just a month. Putting a deadline on it made it easier as u knew I wouldn't have to commit long term. By saying i will work on it daily you can't skip a day, then another etc.

I made myself a little chart so a square was an hour and I filled it up like a thermometer. I did 50hours that first month. I found as a side effect I feel way way more motivated and energetic generally although this maybe because it's the only non baby related thing I do and that has kick started my brain.

This month I've given myself a different deadline to produce something (and present to someobe) by the end of the month. 10 hours per week. This works for me but i think depends on personality type. Deadlines and accountability seem to work for me.

I like that idea. I have a very busy WAH job which is quite stressful and 2 kids homeschooling but maybe I could fit in little bits of learning to draw on youtube whilst sat at my laptop.

Does it matter if you're no good at drawing etc if you enjoy doing it?
Otherwise maybe do some colouring, you can get some great designs these days. Or one of the colouring books that has a finished picture on one side and a blank on the other? Like the attached.

I'm struggling with creative block too!Sad I started looking up art galleries to have a look at what other artists are up to. Not only was it interesting but I found it motivational.Smile Maybe you could try drawing illustrations for your favourite book.

Get some paint, paper, brushes and just paint, don't over think, just put paint to brush to paper and see what you end up with.

Have a search for The Artist's Way @cheeseisthebest
It is specifically about this Smile

LunaHeather · 24/01/2021 14:39

What kind of stuff do you have around?

I can't really draw, going to learn. But I do sunsets and things using chalk pastels. I don't really start with something specific in mind but have wound up with some nice things.

Teaseller · 24/01/2021 14:46

Try adult colouring books. Creativity without the level of pressure involved in creating it all yourself

Twerking9to5 · 24/01/2021 14:52

Have a look at online drawing tutorials. I spent a very pleasant 45 mins drawing a mans face and was really quite pleased with the outcome! It was all guided and you can obviously pause to catch up. Plus it does actually teach some skill

Digital painting is great If you make a mistake you can undo the work. You can cheat and use the original photo to improve the image. I can't be bothered doing a hobby if I do it badly

Charles11 · 24/01/2021 15:03

YouTube tutorials! I’ve been doing some paintings following YouTube.
