Does anyone know anything about automatically replaced smoke alarms?

My friend (who has a severe Mental Illness and I believe is classed as a vulnerable adult/adult at risk) is stressing about this-her smoke alarm is due to be replaced and nobody has been in touch about it. Apparently it is meant to flag up to be replaced and someone just comes and does it. She's very stressed about it and has asked me to sort it for her, which I am happy to do, but I just don't know who to speak to?
She thinks It's the fire brigade-but as they don't have a non-emergency number I thought my best bet would be to call 101 and ask them to speak to them about it?

Any better ideas?

TIA :)

Wouldn’t it be a company that does it? Or the council if it is a council house? We have privately bought smoke/carbon monoxide detectors which we replace ourselves. However we have our house alarm serviced by a company.

But I guess you could make an enquiry to fire brigade as they might know more details.

Can you Google your local fire service? I know London Fire Brigade have a switchboard number for general enquiries.

Thanks all. I will google and see what I can find. She owns her house, I did think it sounds like a private company sort of thing but I just don't know.

What do you mean it’s due to be replaced op? Why is it due to be replaced?

You get ones wired in, or you get battery operated. Neither are dealt with by the fire brigade, just private companies selling or providing a service.

She says it is ten years old and they're replaced every ten years. I wonder if she has just become confused.

The fire brigade fits them in my town. You can Google their land line number and book an appointment. They come and check the fire alarms and do a fire safety check on the house.

Most fire and rescue services have a service for installing smoke alarms. The contact details for this service will be on their website.

Fire brigade do come and install and replace fire alarms so she is probably right. Whether they are still doing it in lockdown I don't know. If you search for Fire Brigade and the town you should be able to find a number, Facebook page, twitter account, email etc.

Probably just needs a new battery or pick one up in screwfix or B&Q. If she owns her own home it's not the fire brigades job to come and sort it.

I'm a homeowner and the fire brigade did mine a few years ago. There was a huge campaign locally surrounding it.

They replaced them for free in our old house, came out and blitzed the road after a fire in one of the houses. It didn't matter that we owned the house. Children loved it as they showed them the fire engine too.

Fabulous, thank you all. I've found an admin number but there's no answer-I will call on Monday.

I'd happily do that for her slub but I live in a different county so just not possible at the moment. she can't do it, she's not very well.

Their ones last 10 years but you can't replace the battery it is a sealed unit. I think so they make sure you don't limp on for years with a suboptimal one.
