Clark's shoes guarantee

coronafiona · 24/01/2021 04:55

I bought 3 pairs of school shoes in Clark's last August at a cost of £150 ish. My sons pair have become faulty and they were doing a guarantee that they will replace if their feet have grown in February.
I've emailed them and they are saying they've withdrawn the guarantee and are offering 30% new shoes instead.
I am really annoyed as it's such a lot of money AND the shoes are faulty. Surely this isn't right? Can anyone give any advice how to get them replaced?

A fault developing now from shoes bought in august is possibly fair wear and tear, given its kids shoes and they tend to get battered about. I would just accept the 30% off to be honest.

kowari · 24/01/2021 06:16

They've only been at school for one term, I would expect a replacement. I bought my teen shoes Dec 2019 and they are still in good condition.

Spottysausagedogs · 24/01/2021 06:43

It's not right they've 'withdrawn' the guarantee is it? Do you have any written evidence of the guarantee from when it was published? I'm like you, I saved the receipts in a prominent place as it's a lot of money spent.
However, I do remember it was a guarantee against their feet growing so much that the shoes wouldn't fit properly by Feb, which I did think at the time would be a bit difficult to prove either way. You've got a different gripe, and while your problem with the shoes is still valid, I'm sure they would argue it falls outside the terms of the guarantee anyway.

Annoying-what type of fault ? Pic ?

when my daughters Clark shoes had a fault (metal coming out the back of the shoe which was sharp) and gave her a blister after 6 weeks with a receipt- Clark’s was a nightmare they would only exchange with the same shoes :-(((( I don’t buy girls school shoes from them anymore .... starite now :-)

eeliie · 24/01/2021 06:49

When I originally saw this offer I did think it would be difficult to prove that your child's feet have outgrown the shoes. What is the fault?

kowari · 24/01/2021 06:53

Have his feet grown? It's not your fault that you can't get them remeasured. If it's just the fault then it wouldn't come under the guarantee but they should last longer than one term at that price, I don't think that is fair wear and tear.

rhowton · 24/01/2021 07:15

The guarantee was for if their feet grew!! They gave us new ones at the beginning of December.

PinkyParrot · 24/01/2021 07:22

Did you speak to a person. Fault is different.

"Under the Consumer Rights act a retailer has a duty to repair or replace faulty goods"

Which link www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/l/faulty-goods

happylittlechick · 24/01/2021 07:51

The guarantee was if their feet had grown. The offer has been withdrawn as you can no longer go in store to prove this and get the correct size. Fair enough in my opinion and 30% off is a generous offer.

A fault is different and you should follow a complaint about a fault rather than claiming through this offer. However after 5months it seems like reasonable wear on a pair of child's shoes.

Dcadmam001 · 24/01/2021 08:06

Clarks are a nightmare - I took my 8 year olds shoes back after a couple of weeks as stitching undoing to be told by a salesperson it was due to my son wearing then in the playground at breaks and he should wear trainers at breaks..... I said in an incredulous loud voice “are you really telling me Clark’s shoes should only be worn inside school when my son is sitting at his desk and not outside? Don’t you think you should advertise your shoes are only to be worn inside?!” The whole shop stopped and started laughing, manager rushed over to me and shoes replaced......

IamChipmunk · 24/01/2021 09:06

I took my ds's shoes back in the xmas hols as holes had worn through on the inside of one shoe. He only wears them 4 days a week and I would expect £45 shoes to last more than one term.
They swapped them for another of the same pair without any fuss.
He now hasnt worn them due to lock down! Typical!

ouchmyfeet · 24/01/2021 09:09

I'm done with Clarks. 2 pairs of shoes purchased in August, both had completely fallen apart by January. One of the children is generally hard on his shoes, never had a problem with the other.

Kids still in school so the shoes need replacing regardless. I've sent Clark's an email with photos and have replaced the shoes elsewhere but I'm not expecting much. The shoes have become poorer and poorer quality over the last 5 years

RubyGoat · 24/01/2021 09:21

I don’t buy from Clark’s any more unless I happen to be at the outlet shop where they are £15-18 per pair. I don’t mind paying that but I wouldn’t pay the full price they aren’t worth it.

Where do people buy Startrite from?

RubyGoat · 24/01/2021 09:25

Ah never mind - as usual John Lewis has them!

SusannaSpider · 24/01/2021 09:25

We gave up with Clarks, I bought a pair of shoes, within 3wks they were too small. Went back they measured her two sizes up?! They only had one style in her size as a replacement, DD said it was moving on her heel, we had to take them, they refused to refund. Her heels were raw and bleeding the next day, Clarks refused to replace or refund on them. We bought school shoes from M&S from then on, cheaper and faultless. Until last year, DD is an 8 and M&S girls school shoes stop at a 7. No where else had anything suitable, so I ended up buying at Clarks, the only thing they had was patent and £60. The shoes have peeled and there's a lump in the lining over her toe. They look trashed and she hasn't even worn them that much because of lockdown and then she was in trainers for a good while because of an injury.
Clarks are absolute rubbish.

harknesswitch · 24/01/2021 09:27

If the shoes are faulty then take them back. That's nothing to do with the froth guarantee

coronafiona · 24/01/2021 11:35

I don't know if his feet have grown as can't measure them. He has only been at school for a few weeks. The top part of the shoe is stitched to the sides and this is coming away so the fault isn't to do with wear and tear.
I felt that they should be replaced because of the fault, but possibly in a slightly larger size because of the guarantee. 30% off yet another £55 pair of shoes isn't really going to cover it.

coronafiona · 24/01/2021 11:37

I think I'll go to the shop and speak to a human when they re open. There is no startrite round here.
I don't begrudge a lot of money for shoes they wear every day but I except them to last for the price... it's more than I spend on my shoes!!

OP posts:
userintgerain · 24/01/2021 11:39

We got tread shoes in September. The stitching came off on the Velcro tab in November (so 2 months wear) and they had a new pair to us the next day. No other signs of wear. The shoes are guaranteed for 12 months.

kowari · 24/01/2021 11:42

You can measure the length with heel against a wall on a sheet of paper, then compare to a chart online.
