Do you dream about your childhood home?

wonderwhatshappening1978 · 23/01/2021 18:17

And if so, are they happy dreams?

I dream about mine. They're rarely happy but I strangely miss that unresolved period in my life.

Am I alone in dreaming of my childhood home?

Yes I do occasionally! The house is always completely different inside and it leaves me feeling weird

wonderwhatshappening1978 · 23/01/2021 18:19

The minds a funny thing isn't it.

I sometimes wonder if my lovely children will dream about their childhood home, as we've been here since they have all been born and are unlikely to move due to finances!

Why was the period unresolved?

My parents moved around a lot so I'm not sure I have a childhood home as such.

scochran · 23/01/2021 18:21

Strangely I have these dreams where I discover hidden rooms in the house. I dread to think what it might signify!

LizFlowers · 23/01/2021 18:21

Only once and that was many years ago, just after my mother died. It was a sunny day and we were coming out of the house with my son in a push chair. It was a nice dream.

wonderwhatshappening1978 · 23/01/2021 18:22

I think unresolved as it wasn't a happy childhood home per say. Married parents but absent father; sibling off the rails and me helping my mum to cope. Throw in my fathers dad living with us and caring for him. I did bloody love my mum and the old man though 😃

It was on the market recently the pictured made me so sentimental so many things still there that ddad had built or crafted he was so handy

Quornflakegirl · 23/01/2021 18:23

Often, it makes me feel safe, loved and happy then I remember how different things are now and I have to force myself to stop before I get upset.

WitchesNest · 23/01/2021 18:25

No, but I often think about my grandparents home when I was a child. It was the only place I felt safe and loved, I still miss it to this day. I’d love to live in it too, it was a beautiful house

I bet.

My life's been the other way round; I totally feel for you.

Yes I often dream of my childhood home (parents still live there). It's always the same dream - the something is trying to get in the windows/door and I am trying to close and lock them but they are all open and I'm struggling to make it round quickly enough to close them all. Always exactly the same.

I had a happy childhood there and my parents are still happily there so I don't really know that it's about that. I once read that in dreams your home can represent your sense of self, so I maybe have those dreams when I'm feeling under threat or out of control in some way? Interesting theory to apply to the hidden rooms dreams!

Isn't it funny how places seep into our dreams and retain their truth. Sounds lovely memories.

I wish I could interpret dreams for you! Very odd!

I do! It's sometimes different inside but I still recognise it as my old home. Sometimes I dream I live in it now with my dh and children. I also dream about finding hidden rooms in my home but I understand why, I often feel we are bursting out of our home and need more space we have to many toys!!

Nope. Never. I dream about secondary school all the time though. And certain roads.

Strange! I wonder why?

I'd love to rewrite history and go back in time!

I dream about my childhood home quite often but usually that I’ve gone in and made myself at home before realising that I don’t live there anymore and the family that do have just come home and I’m about to get caught Shock
I also have hidden room dreams all the time, I love those ones except I’m very disappointed when I wake up and my house is still small. They always involve elaborate bathrooms for some reason.
When ds was due to start secondary school I had a tour round the I’d gone too. That felt just like being in a dream because some of corridors and classrooms and the stairs in the science block were exactly as when I was a school girl 30 years ago but you turned a corner or looked out of a window it was all different, with extra rooms!

LApprentiSorcier · 23/01/2021 19:00

Often, but my parents still live in it so it's still a part of my life (when we're not in the middle of a pandemic).

The dreams aren't happy, but then my dreams rarely are - they're a relentless tangle of anxiety and despair. The last pleasant dream I had was two years ago, on the night before my birthday.

Ihaveoflate · 23/01/2021 19:07

I often dream about the house we leaved in when I was a teenager. It wasn't a happy time but it was a very intense time, emotionally. It's like it's etched in my memory but not for the right reasons. My dad is often in the house in my dreams for the same reasons (he's been dead nearly 6 years).

I very occasionally drive past the house if I'm out that way, which helps to keep me in the present and make me realise it's just bricks and mortar.

My DH had a relatively happy, unremarkable childhood and never dreams about the family home. He doesn't get it at all.

Ihaveoflate · 23/01/2021 19:08

Lived not leaved!
