Military-grade tampons for night?

Milomonster · 23/01/2021 12:22

I woke up to utter carnage this morning despite changing my pad in the middle of the night. Had my second round of iron infusion last week due to anemia and the bleeding seems more heavy. Binned my pjs and had a trail of blood to the loo. Utterly fed up of the heavy bleeding but will be having surgery in 6 weeks to get rid of my fibroids. Until then, can anyone suggest tampons which would work for super-heavy bleeding overnight? Never used them before but willing to try.

You could use a super plus tampon and a nighttime pad for back up

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 23/01/2021 12:33

Lillets are good. Go for Super Plus or Super Plus Extra. It does depend on your shape so worth trying a few brands if they don’t work.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/01/2021 12:34

Super plus tampon and a maternity pad.

And add WUKA period pants.they have the biggest absorbent area

Ariela · 23/01/2021 12:45

I'd suggest menstrual cup and cloth pads for back up.

BPCoveredInSpots · 23/01/2021 12:45

Tena night pads are good for this, with period pants.

MadisonAvenue · 23/01/2021 12:47

Lillets do an Ultra, Tesco stock them in some of their stores, and Superdrug do their own brand version.

Aposterhasnoname · 23/01/2021 12:49

Lillets ultra plus a night pad and period pants.

sylbunny · 23/01/2021 12:56

I've always found a cup holds so much more. Tampons I'd need to change in the night and would still wake up flooded but cups on heavy days I wake up with it full but not battle of the Somme territory. I always double up with a pad too.

FindHungrySamurai · 23/01/2021 12:56

This is what the Lillet Super Plus Extra and Ultra look like.

Are you on Tranexamic acid? Should reduce the bleeding to more manageable levels and protect you from anemia.

two folded over bath sheets under your bum while you sleep, just in case - or do what I do and forget sleep, stay downstairs, sit on a towel in the armchair surfing t'internet or watching box sets with frequent/rapid dashes to the loo until it eases up. (this technique won't work if you don't have a downstairs loo Grin )

might be worth a phonecall to check re the blood loss. are you feeling ok now?

SoupDragon · 23/01/2021 12:59

@Aposterhasnoname

Lillets ultra plus a night pad and period pants.
This.
curtaincalll · 23/01/2021 13:04

Tampax super plus plus a nighttime pad plus period pants.

Change the tampax and towel once overnight.

I do this minus the period pants for first 2 nights when I'm pretty heavy but not as heavy as you by sounds of it.

Twizbe · 23/01/2021 13:08

Maternity or size 4 always towels with tampax compax Pearl tampon. Still need to change in the night though.

I also put a towel under me, wear rightish leggings so things don't move.

Ibuprofen reduces the blood flow as well so take some before bed and sleep on your left side.

Doesn't always work but can help a bit

movingonup20 · 23/01/2021 13:12

Super plus (I use Morrison's, plus nighttime pad (also Morrison's) worked for me. Now have mirena so non issue

BrownFootStool · 23/01/2021 13:18

I can soak through a super plus tampon in 2 hours due to fibroids. I will always have to do a nightime change but I use the tampon, a night pad and then I fold up a tshirt or something, it goes high front to back, and hold it in place with a second pair of knickers.

QueenPawPaws · 23/01/2021 13:21

These reusable ones are big but v v good, they're not a narrow slim "under tight clothes" pad but I've never leaked

Thanks all for all your suggestions. Really helpful.

I’ve tried tranexamic acid but the clots are bigger and more painful.

@PussyCatInChristmasStockings your post made me smile! I have an en-suite and practically live in there during the worst of it in the day. Feeling headachey and really grumpy. Don’t have rapid heartbeat as I did before infusion but I reckon ok have bled the benefits of it away soon. Doc wants to check my iron levels in 6 weeks and didn’t want me to have surgery until it was brought within range. The irony (no pun intended Grin) is that I’m bleeding more since infusion.

I can't help feeling that anyone recommending super plus tampons has not experienced heavy periods - I use them on my light days! And Tampax are shit IMO because they expand the wrong way. As recommended by a PP, I suggest Lilets Ultra combined with a night time pad.

CorpusCallosum · 23/01/2021 15:10

Sorry you're having a rough time. I can recommend a lunette cup, it says you can empty it every 12hrs but I have to do it every 6 🙄

Changed my life after using tampons for years though 🩸🩸🩸

These. I also gave in and now have a waterproof bedsheet for my bed.

Mucky1 · 23/01/2021 15:29

A puppy training pad on top of the sheet it an easy whip off and swap option also.

MissSmiley · 23/01/2021 16:25

@Milomonster is your planned surgery gynae related? Have you considered endometrial ablation? Obvs depends on your age and whether you plan on having more/any children. Peri menopause saw my periods become flooding and EA was amazing, haven't had a drop since

Milomonster · 23/01/2021 17:18

@MissSmiley I’m pretty sure peri has something to do with the sheer volume of blood but i have fibroids. As they are embedded in uterus wall, I’ll have a myomectomy. I asked about EA at the same time but gynae said no due to risk of infection. I still don’t get how fibroids cause so much bleeding.
