Would you get a Covid test with these symptoms?

Runny nose, cold sore, mild headache over the last 6 hours. Feel tired but ok. No loss of appetite, no cough or temp, no loss of smell or taste. Would you test in these circumstances?

Please don't go to the lateral flow test centres if you have any symptoms.

Get a PCR test.

Do you use the Zoe app? I reported runny nose, headache, general aches and fatigue last week and was advised to test. You can order a home test online and say the Zoe app advised a test.

The test kit arrived the following day, I did it and sent straight back - results by text and email the next day.

I wanted to go check with as test as I'm shielding, fortunately was negative.

There is capacity in test centres throughout most of the UK, I would (& as they only ask for the three main symptoms still, which is fucking ridiculous as I know many people who’ve not had them but had COVID-19 then I’d lie - I’d rather reduce risk to others than comply with a system that doesn’t make sense..plus you know and can then react appropriately).

Unless tests are in short supply and booked out in your area, I would tell a white lie and book one. Well, at this point I’d sleep on it and book one in the morning.

53SpeckledyHen you can still test positive for up to 90 days... did your friends procedure go ahead?

bombaychef · 22/01/2021 23:35

Yes I would. Near me they have free LF tests so I'd do that at least

I work in a LF test centre. Anyone with symptoms is turned away. So OP would have to lie and say she had no symptoms.
Normandy144 · 22/01/2021 23:40

I wouldn't as you don't have any of the symptoms that the NHS require for testing. Obviously if that changes then go get one but not at the moment.

Redburnett · 22/01/2021 23:41

Yes, just tick a box. And self isolate until result even it the stupid govt limitations do not require it.

ConfusedcomMum · 22/01/2021 23:50

DH's first symptoms presented as a cold, my first symptom was a mild headache that gradually got worse over a few days. No temperature, no persistent cough, no loss in taste or smell yet we still tested. My whole family tested positive.

EmilyEmmabob · 23/01/2021 09:10

I actually think lying and ticking one of the symptom boxes so you can get a PCR test is for the greater good in this situation. I did it when I had similar symptoms because the headache was so bad. I ticked loss/change to sense of smell or taste. No one checks.

My test was negative but I'm glad I checked. If the symptoms you have are covid then you can't go to the asymptomatic test centres, if they're not then you can. The only way to find that out is through a test.

Good luck OP.

Cold sore is a herpes virus, right? Not sars-cov-2

I wouldn't be motivated to worry about those symptoms. Cold weather gives me runny nose, insomnia or dehydration gives me headaches, life gives me fatigue.

Daisy778 · 23/01/2021 17:21

I tested positive without any of the 3 main symptoms. I was prompted to get a test by my colleague who had tested positive over Christmas with the same symptoms as me. After speaking to other colleagues who had tested positive previously they didn't have any of the 3 main symptoms either. I would definitely get a test if you're worried. My collegues symptoms and my own were mainly aching joints and muscles and generally just feeling unwell.
