At home restaurant boxes not providing ingredients list

Would anyone else expect that a cook at home restaurant meal kit would come with a list of ingredients for each component? It did list allergens.

I wasn't overly bothered when it didn't as there was a number to call for any questions except they couldn't tell me either Confused

I need to know if an ingredient is included as I'm allergic to it, not just being difficult! I wasn't nasty when the lovely woman phoned back and told me she couldn't get hold of anyone to ask but I am a bit WTF!

If it listed allergens, wasn't your allergen listed? Confused

If I had a really severe allergy to something that was likely to be used in small quantities, I wouldn't order a box like that.

Im only allergic to things which will form a big part of the meal so are easy to avoid

HardAsSnails · 22/01/2021 18:19

I wouldn't expect full list in the box but would expect the website to list it all fully. I'm just looking at my Gousto app and ingredients are fully listed on there.

One of my allergens is dried milk/dairy products, but not fresh, so a 'contains milk' box tick isn't helpful (looking at you Premier Inn).

I didn't buy it, it was a gift from someone! I wouldn't have bought it without knowing.

My daughter is the same, she can handle milk powder/dried whey but not anything else so I like specifics!

Yep I expected it to be listed on the website Confused

And no, I'm not allergic to any of the main allergens!

I don’t expect a full list of ingredients, just as at a restaurant, but I do expect them to be able to answer “has it got x or y in it?”.

Dancingdolphins · 22/01/2021 18:40

@ThePricklySheep yeah that's what I meant really. If I ate there they would presumably be able to tell me if it had x,y or z in it.

A lot of takeaways don’t supply a full ingredient list and this is more like a takeaway service than a full restaurant service. We’ve bought a few of these now and none have had a full ingredients list.

But then I would expect the restaurant to have had answered your question so I think that was poor service on their behalf.

Dancingdolphins · 22/01/2021 18:55

Yep I think a full list of ingredients is probably unnecessary but I do think they should have been able to tell me what was in it when I called. It does look bloody lovely though, it's Rick Stein's sea bass box Smile

I wouldn’t expect it just like I don’t expect it at a restaurant. They already provide an allergen list and I would expect that to cover what you need.

You wouldn't expect a restaurant to be able to tell you if an ingredient was included in a dish?

Don't they have to by law at a restaurant?

I would expect them to say if a certain ingredient was in there.

I work at a restaurant and no one ever asks for a full list of ingredients but sometimes people will ask if the dish contains (for example) kiwi fruit.

It’s not one of the 14 common allergens ( like milk, soy etc) but people can still be allergic to it.

Dancingdolphins · 22/01/2021 19:06

Just to clarify, I didn't ask for a list of ingredients (although that would have been handy if it was included!) but I did call and ask if one ingredient was used in one component of the dish.
