I think my little boy has this, it's all over his arms. I tried Cerave, it made no difference. I wondered if anybody could recommend something good or any advice re treatment that worked for them. I've googled to death and it's just a rabbit hole. Thank you!

my daughter has this, she puts on Cetraben cream from the gp, it help to moisturise the skin, she also gently exfoliates the skin after every shower which does help.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 22/01/2021 14:28

I found switching from shower gel to soap helped massively.

SionnachRua · 22/01/2021 14:32

It's ugly but harmless (speaking as someone who had it for many years - finally disappeared at about 26!). I used to just keep on top of moisturising and exfoliating which kept it in check. Warm showers rather than hot helped too. Friend of mine used to use salicylic acid I think.

That was when I was old enough to want to do so though. If it's not bothering your child I'd leave it alone.

Unfortunately I think any of the creams/lotions that actually work could be too harsh for a child's skin. My DD has it quite bad all over her arms and legs. Anything we've tried stings - Ameloriate, CeraVe smoothing cream, creams with high % urea in etc. She's 10 now, she uses soap in the shower (as opposed to shower gel) and she does use body lotion but it doesn't help with the KP. She says she'd rather wait til she's older to tackle it as she really doesn't want to put up with any stinging! So we'll leave it until it's bothering her and then try those creams again. Funny enough hers improves a bit when she's had sun exposure, but we haven't had any of that for a long time!

Thanks I haven't tried exfoliation but I've got a mit somewhere so I'll try that tonight. And I'll get some Ceraban!

I use Garnier moisturiser for extra fry skin (red bottle) and find this works well

SionnachRua · 22/01/2021 14:34

Oh definitely agree with the sun exposure! Mine was always worse in winter.

Marvelina · 22/01/2021 14:34

It wasn't bothering him until the last few days when he's been scratching at it constantly

Dry!
Marvelina · 22/01/2021 14:36

@LifeInAHamsterWheel yea it's the smoothing cream we've tried. He's hasn't mentioned stinging but it might do now that he's scratching.

A Salux cloth might work well for a child to exfoliate, no chemicals involved, and moisturise after.

Marvelina · 22/01/2021 14:37

Thanks I'll try that

Myself and my son both have this. His is much milder than mine but I'm trying to keep on top of it. I use Ameliorate mixed in with a standard body butter after each bath and it helps a lot. I use the Ameliorate 'neat' on myself but it is a bit stingy

pinkcattydude · 22/01/2021 14:56

I use my muslin squares on it and it minimises what DS has but he still gets the odd one or two pop up

Bellarella · 22/01/2021 15:01

Since I have started using Imperial Leather soap, mine has completely disappeared. It took a few weeks, along with exfoliation. I have suffered for years with it. I am now encouraging my 11year old DD to try as she has it on her face and body. May be worth a try.
