Warm socks

We are a family with bad circulation. Where can I find really good toasty socks that will stave off the blue toes and chilblains? Both for me and the dc (although their feet are nearly as big as mine now).

I have freezing cold feet too and someone recommended Heat Holders socks. I buy them on eBay, about £8-10 a pair. They have a lovely fleece lining and they're definitely the warmest socks I've tried

Sheep wool socks over normal socks and slippers with proper (rubber) soles work for me.

MyNameForToday1980 · 22/01/2021 09:40

I'd have said exactly the same as @ichundich

I have terrible circulation (chilblains in June sort of circulation) and I'm all about: thin cotton socks + 100% wool socks + proper slippers.

For wool socks I've recently bought a bunch of these from etsy which are great: www.etsy.com/uk/listing/764419174/wool-socks-for-winter-lambswool-socks?ref=yr_purchases

For slippers I wear these: www.celticandco.com/sheepskin-slippers/womens-slippers/sheepskin-slippers-bootee

DH is a big fan of Heatholders - the thing that puts me off is the thickness (making normal shoes or slippers less comfortable) and the bloody fluff, somehow the fleecing on the inside works its way out onto the carpet.

ALSO - leg warmers, sounds silly, but keeping your lower leg warm makes a massive difference.

Try goats wool socks. They’re about £12 a pair, but mine have lasted years.

VenusClapTrap · 22/01/2021 10:56

Great suggestions, thank you! I will research all these.

I’ve just realised I had heatholders in the past, and I too found them too bulky to wear with shoes or slippers, which was a bit counter productive as it meant I didn’t wear them much. I need a solution for every day.

I have several thickness options. I wear:
Heatholders with bearpaw (ugg-style sheepskin) boots or
Wool ski socks with Haflinger felt or sheepskin slippers
Merino with shoes, or something that requires a thinner sock

I got the DC some M&S thermal socks at christmas, and they have each commented individually that they really work and are super comfy.

It was these cosy socks

cannaethink · 22/01/2021 12:12

I agree with pp about a pair of thin cotton socks and a pair of wool ones over the top. I’ve got sheepskin slippers for in the house, and wear my docs if I’m out. I used to get chilblains a lot but haven’t got the last few years.
It’s hard to find wool socks that aren’t bulky or hugely expensive though! I got some fab cashmere socks in tkmaxx last year, and John Lewis do some wool and silk socks which I find pretty good.

Wool socks and proper slippers with a sole- I have Gumbies! Not very sexy, but so warm and comfy.

Off to google goats wool socks! Grin
