I've never been signed off before.
Do you just ring the doctors and say you want to be and then they do it and send it to your manager?
How does it work?

You call the GP and explain what’s wrong and then discuss being signed off.

If they agree then they’ll issue you a fit note that you’ll need to give your manager.

Madvixen · 21/01/2021 19:08

You need to make a Dr appointment, outline the issue and then they will decide if you need signed off or not.
If they say you need signed off, they may suggest you self certify for the first week or the may issue you with a fit note that states you are unfit for work. Alternatively they can also issue a fit note that states you are fit for work but cannot undertake certain parts of your role.
You complete your parts of the note and send to your manager or hr dept

purpleme12 · 21/01/2021 19:12

ok so they might not agree to do it?

They will only agree to it if they think it's medically required.

AppleKatie · 21/01/2021 19:14

Of course they might not Confused

PaperMonster · 21/01/2021 19:15

I emailed mine today to say I needed signing off (but I have been hospitalised this week) and they just sent it through via text.

purpleme12 · 21/01/2021 19:15

right ok there's no need to get funny

OP posts:
Toffeefee23 · 21/01/2021 19:16

They might not agree to it obviously they have to make an assessment as a medical professional.

When I had problems with pregnancy sickness I got signed off but the note said I could still work from home (had a 2 hour commute on public transport without access to a toilet).

But in my experience people I know who have asked to be signed off generally have been

YesMeLady · 21/01/2021 19:17

You only need a sickcert if youre off for more than 7 days. The dr will issue one if they feel its appropriate but it depends why you want one. Are you ok.

purpleme12 · 21/01/2021 19:17

too scared to do it in case they say no

OP posts:
Unreasonabubble · 21/01/2021 19:18

If you need to be signed off for 2 weeks or more they will do it if they agree with it. If you just need a week off, you will have to do self certification.

YesMeLady · 21/01/2021 19:18

Do you feel you need time off. Do you need support with a work situation.

BornIn78 · 21/01/2021 19:19

There was a poster recently on another thread, claiming to be a GP, who said she signed people off for “utter shit” reasons, so I’m sure it’ll be pretty easy to get yourself signed off.

Palavah · 21/01/2021 19:19

Well, if they say no then you will be no worse off than you are now.

How are you feeling?

BrandoraPaithwaite · 21/01/2021 19:19

Get a doctor appt and explain what is wrong and how you feel. Be upfront that you are asking to be signed off work because wanting to be off work is part of the overall situation the doc will consider.

TimeToCloseTheDoor · 21/01/2021 19:20

Don’t be scared. You obviously feel you need the time away from work especially if it’s your first time.

The GP Will know what they need to ask you, it’s ok.

You can self cert for the first 7 days first anyways. Do you want to talk about why you need time off?

purpleme12 · 21/01/2021 19:28

I am finding it really hard to cope. My daughter's behaviour and attitude is awful
the pressure from school is awful they don't understand
it's not right
i've worked from home for months and months and i'm sick of it
neither do i want to go int he office where everything is different
the pressure from work is awful

OP posts:
LIZS · 21/01/2021 19:30

Would it be possible to request she attend school?

purpleme12 · 21/01/2021 19:31

I messaged her teacher to say she struggled with the learning when she wasn't at school (she struggles in more ways than one when not at school) the teacher just said she knows it's hard this is the work the DofE have set try to encourage her and hopefully it will get easier.
She doesn't get it

Hoppinggreen · 21/01/2021 19:33

It sounds like you have got a lot on your plate but getting signed off isn’t a simple answer.
You will need a GP appointment, they will decide if you can be signed off. You usually only need to do this if you are having longer than a week off
It will go on your sick record at work so may count against you for promotions or bonuses ( if either of those are a possibility) . If you apply for another job it will also show on your sickness record if they ask for/get one
Do you have a supportive partner? Can the school help? Can you speak to a manager or HR about the pressure?

purpleme12 · 21/01/2021 19:35

my sickness record is really good
i've not been off poorly in the last 12 months i don't think
no it's me doing it all it's just me and her.

OP posts:
YesMeLady · 21/01/2021 19:35

It can all just mount up and affect our stress levels and mental health. What sort of work do you do, do you have anyone there you can talk to. Sometimes you just need some time off to reflect and have a rest. Have you worked there a long time. You can have a week off without needing a certificate but is your dd behaviour being addressed .

Hoppinggreen · 21/01/2021 19:39

How old is she?
If Primary then cut right back , if Secondary still ease off a bit
Or both of you just take tomorrow off sick and have a rest. In the first lockdown I emailed my Y10 DDs form teacher to say she was spending the day colouring in

TimeToCloseTheDoor · 21/01/2021 19:41

It does sound really stressful, well done for getting through this far!

Is there a way you can work more flexibly ie the Evenings so you can concentrate on your DD during school hours. How old is DD.

Don’t ever be afraid to say you are not ok, it will get better.

purpleme12 · 21/01/2021 19:54

i can't change my hours it's a place where people call in
she's 7
