Do you use a diary?

I can use the calendar my phone for reminders and stuff but I really prefer to have things I want to remember written down in a diary. DP says this is really old fashioned and nobody does this anymore, so I was just wondering Smile

What - to keep track of all those walks in the park?
I haven't bothered to buy one for 2021 but, yes, normally I have a diary. Quite fussy about the ones I buy, too!

I have a paper calendar as I like to be able to glance and see what’s coming up this month. Since having my second DC I’ve become disorganised so by putting everything on the calendar that I’ll see every day when putting the kettle on it should help me remember

Veryverycalmnow · 19/01/2021 18:34

Yes I love a paper diary. I'm happy to be old- fashioned.

itsgettingweird · 19/01/2021 18:35

I did!!!!

Most of 2020 was scribbled out (ds swim meets, training and his GCSEs etc).

Haven't even bothered for 2021 (yet!)

I prefer a small diary I can see the weeks in advance without having to faff around in an app.

Ghostlyglow · 19/01/2021 18:39

I tried to do without this year but have given in and got one (in the sale).

I usually do keep a diary - in normal years it would be to keep track of the groups and clubs I belong to related to my hobby; meetings, events, competitions, exhibitions etc all over the country. Being on a couple of the organising committees meant extra stuff to do as well.

At the moment, absolutely fuck all is being written in it.

LApprentiSorcier · 19/01/2021 18:41

Yes, mainly for work but I do put personal things in it as well.

RaininSummer · 19/01/2021 18:43

Yes, as above mainly for work but also to remind me of stuff like online shopping, dog flea treatment etc. One day it will have fun things in it again.

gettingolderbutcooler · 19/01/2021 18:51

I print a family calendar every year!

LubaLuca · 19/01/2021 18:54

No. I bought one last year as usual, which made me realise I really don't need one for the time being. Fingers crossed I'll feel it's worthwhile buying a 2022 one...

Deelish75 · 19/01/2021 19:05

I’ve got a calendar and diary. I bought them both back in July, and the run Sept to Sept (I like to have all the school holidays for the following year).
The calendar is family one, so that’s got all the birthdays in it. Ds’s school timetable is fortnightly so that’s written in it too.
My diary is just for when I’m booking appointments such as hair, dentist as tend to book next ones whilst I’m there, but do transfer those appointments over to family calendar.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/01/2021 19:10

My mum has kept one since she was 16 - she's 80 this year. They make some good reading - but not the last year

EspressoExpresso · 19/01/2021 19:14

I have a work diary and a personal diary. I just cannot get to grips with having it on my phone, I like a paper diary. Work diary is a generic A5 weekly view diary from sainsbos with cartoon dogs on. My personal diary is a beautiful leather A5 filofax (Finsbury turquoise to be precise)

LesLavandes · 19/01/2021 19:14

Yes. A large Moleskin diary

SimonJT · 19/01/2021 19:14

Yes, I have a wall calendar with everything on, my memory is crap and I’d forget things otherwise, plus it means my partner and I can ‘book’ things without double booking as we can quickly check.

I also keep a diary diary, its mainly my thoughts and emotions, questioning myself etc rather than a diary of events. I also write down any worries, oh also I write dreams in it. So before I sleep I get it out and write down any worries to put them away, when I wake up if I have had an interesting dream I write it down straight away so I remember as much as possible.

52andblue · 19/01/2021 19:25

I've a wall calendar with everything on in the kitchen for all to see.
Plus a small 'week to double page' handbag job for events / appoints
In case I crash and the emergency services need my details.
(plus I keep them all and its been really handy checking back at times)

KeyWorker · 19/01/2021 19:36

I do. I work shifts so use it to write them in and also note down ward meetings or being off late ect or I write down the days my Mum picks DD up from school. From the colleagues on my ward I’d say there was a 50/50 split of those using a diary and those using apps, so not all that unusual or old fashioned! Mine has space for nites down the side so I like to write a weekly to do last and tick jobs off. I think I like the tick list as I feel I have achieved something.

Littlebeach · 19/01/2021 19:50

I do, I’d be lost without my paper diary. I need to see things wrote out otherwise I’d forget.

stargirl1701 · 19/01/2021 20:01

Yes. I have a diary for work and a we have a family diary.

If I write it down, I have a better chance of remembering.
