Would you get Pfizer vaccine if breastfeeding a newborn?

In a position where I can get the vaccine and can’t make my mind up. Feel some pressure because of a CEV parent. I would take it without a second thought if it wasn’t for the fact I’m breastfeeding. Does anyone have any thoughts?

if I was BF and was CEV yes I would get the vaccine. So is it one of the granparents that is CEV wanting you to get the vaccine so they can have contact?

Bit more complicated if so

I’m not CEV but a HCP and got mine as soon as they changed the guidance. Almost cried with relief.

Yes, they've said it's safe

There’s no plausible danger from the vaccine, but obvious benefits for baby of you not getting sick. Even if you weren’t very poorly, trying to distance as much as possible to reduce viral load while maintaining breastfeeding sounds exhausting and difficult to balance. Hopefully now I won’t end up in that situation.

I would.

7m pregnant with dc3 and I can get it through work (though I'm still in a queue) Fairly certain I'll have it even if pregnant when offered.

I've ebf my other 2 DC. It might give your milk a funny flavour for a couple of days (no way of knowing yet) but if you are managing bf ok then I would do it.

sylbunny · 19/01/2021 16:55

Yes definitely! I'm hoping they might change their mind about pregnant women as I'm not due to give birth until end of April!

Heatherjayne1972 · 19/01/2021 16:56

But You likely won’t get a choice of which vaccine you ‘want’. The pct buy it (probably the cheapest or most available one)

However as far as I know there’s very minimal risk with bf from any of the vaccines Midwife/ Heath visitor would know tho

OwlWearingGlasses · 19/01/2021 16:56

Definitely. Humans come across about 10,000 antigens every day. One more (in the form of a vaccine) will be absolutely fine.

Sorry I wasn’t clear - one of my parents is CEV so they’re keen for me to get it so we can resume normality as early as possible. I’m very sure it’s the Pfizer vaccine I would get as our Trust have said they don’t yet have stocks of Oxford.
