URGENT QUESTION ABOUT TICKETS FOR CRICKET AT LORDS- please help!!!

JoanneCofton · 18/01/2021 23:53

I’m thinking of buying tickets for my DP for the cricket at Lords (England v India). I know it may not go ahead but I’m hoping it will.

I’m on the website now but I’ve just realised I have absolutely NO idea about cricket. There’s a ODI in July, should I get tickets for rhat? The other option is day 3 in august but will it be over my day 3?!? And is there any point of going on day 3?

I am absolutely clueless. They’re so much money so I don’t want to get it wrong. Please if anyone has ANY wisdom please help

Thanks!

What sort of cricket does your DP like? Some people see test (5 day) cricket as the best, purest, form of the game, others find one day cricket to be more exciting.

It would be unusual (but not impossible) for it to be over by day 3. In my limited knowledge most games seem to end (or run out of gas) on day 4. Day 5 is definitely a risk.

To be honest I don’t know Blush. I just know he likes cricket whereas I just can’t seem to take to it. I think he’d like anything, when I’ve said before I think it’s boring he’s said it’s really exciting and just a good day out with your mates to watch some sport. I just really don’t want to get it wrong :(

I just wasn’t sure if the one day thing is just a total no no or if it’s still a good day out and still enjoyable for cricket fans

Both are good options. Which to go for depends on which form of the game your DP prefers. If he more of a traditionalist / purist, he will probably prefer the test match, but both are great optIons. He’s a lucky lad to have such a generous partner.

1, ODI is a one-day international game, as the name suggests, the entire game takes place on one day, and it’s a full day’s entertainment.

2, Day 3 means the third day of a test match, which lasts for up to five days. England and India are both strong teams, and the games should be hard-fought and close, so it’s highly likely there will be a full day’s play on day 3.

Hope this helps!

Both could be rained off but I would probably pick day 3 of a test over a ODI.

I think the traditionalist and cricket geeks prefer test cricket, whereas the younger less obsessed ones prefer one day. How old is your DP? My DH is 60 and prefers test cricket, he tuts about batsman going for flashy shots rather than quality, One day usually has a more fun atmosphere, and there’s a result on the day.
To be honest, a day out at Lords is great whatever match you choose. I’m sure he will be pleased.

If either day is completely rained off, which of course can happen in an English summer, will get a full refund because the organisers take out insurance policies to cover that. Losing a full day Is very unusual, though, particularly in London.

Thank you all so, so much for your help. I have booked the third day, so fingers crossed for a warm sunny day. Hopefully he is going to love it.

Thanks again!
