What Is This RASH

Over the last 4 months or so my body has become increasingly covered in this rash.

I’ve always had eczema, but this is different and it’s in places I’ve never had eczema before - my legs and my back esp.

Sent pics to the GP today and I’ve been prescribed a gentle wash. She didn’t want to give me steroid cream because it’s so extensive, but she hasn’t actually seen it up close and how much of my body is covered.

I can’t see special wash cutting it really

Almost looks ring worm like?

Wotrewelookinat · 18/01/2021 20:13

I had something similar, though it’s a bit hard to see from your photos. Dr assumed it was excema, prescribed steroid cream, got worse and worse, paid to see a dermatologist (was in March and there was no hope of seeing anyone on the nhs) who diagnosed psoriasis. I’m 50, never had it before. Might be worth you googling it.

Another vote for ringworm.

Looks like a fungal infection. Is it itchy?

Piggyhoolier · 18/01/2021 20:19

It does look a little like ringworm but also similar to pitiriasis rosada - my DD had it all over her torso especially and was prescribed many things to treat it none of which worked until the dr tried a medicated shampoo which you had to leave on for 10 mins and use every day. Could be similar to your wash?

Nochristmasbreak · 18/01/2021 20:20

Looks like eczema to me.

You can get hydrocortisone from the pharmacist, you don't need a prescription.

I would try that for a week/10 days, if no improvement I would go back to GP.

dingledongle · 18/01/2021 20:20

Looks like ringworm however I would get a GP consultation so you get the right treatment Smile

It looks sore Sad

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 18/01/2021 20:21

It is itchy, especially on my back.

I’ve seen pics of ringworm and psoriasis and dermatitis and it’s quite like all of them

It's discoid eczema!

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 18/01/2021 20:24

I now have a patch on my neck and I can definitely feel it in my scalp

I’ll get my special body wash tomorrow.

I have been very stressed

Woops pressed post too soon

I had this a few years ago, having previously had eczema although never severe.

It was unbearably itchy. I was prescribed hydroxyzine (a sedating antihistamine stronger than piriton) that stopped the itch/scratch cycle, mometasone ointment (strong steroid) and various emollients (Doublebase would burn! Others were ok, especially ointments)

Cleared up in a couple of months and has never returned...

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 18/01/2021 20:29

Oh Discoid Eczema looks good - I have normal atopic eczema and pomphlox eczema

I’m on daily high dose antihistamines already which is one of the treatments

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 18/01/2021 20:31

Until ow I’ve been using trimovate and diprobase

OP posts:
bookshop1 · 18/01/2021 20:35

Would definitely recommend a stronger steroid if they'll give you one

Elocon ointment is what I had

FrankiesKnuckle · 18/01/2021 20:37

Have you been allergy tested?
I have both types of eczema you mention plus contact dermatitis.
I researched and asked for protopic ointment which had worked well.

I did find the source though, main culprit is Methylisothiazolinone - found in lots of things like body washes and detergents.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 18/01/2021 20:39

Well I already have betnovate cream for my topical eczema and trimovate which was what I was given before for this.

I’ll see what they have given me tomorrow when I pick up my prescription

Ah well maybe my special wash stuff will make a difference..!

snowone · 18/01/2021 20:46

That looks like discoid eczema - DD has it. She was prescribed a steroid cream called clobetasone by the dermatologist

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 18/01/2021 20:56

I absolutely wish I could see a dermatologist. I have private health care but I don’t know if they are taking referrals at the moment

tiredteacher100 · 14/02/2021 10:36

You probably can see a private dermatologist. I had a similar rash recently, looks identical. Mine was discoid lupus and sub cutaneous lupus. Given my medical history I knew straight away what it was but struggled on with my gp on the phone and finally in desperation went private with a dermatologist during lockdown. I wish I had got it sorted sooner though as my skin is now scarred where the lesions were! I ended up using Elocon ointment and dermovate, but it took weeks to work. I hope you manage to get it sorted out ok!
