Traditional holiday parks with chalets

Does anyone know of any remaining holiday parks that are still the old-fashioned traditional British style with chalets?

We've been going to the same one for years, and during lockdown the new owners have razed the place to the ground and filled it with caravans. Sad

Hazelwood in Devon

@AndyMurraysCat - no, Ladram bay looks modern.

What I mean by traditional chalets is just that - the old fashioned holiday camp sort. There must still be a few parks around that haven't demolished the originals.

Hasn't st Merryn near padstow got chalets?

FenEel · 19/01/2021 16:19

Do you mean like at Butlins? www.butlins.com/discover-butlins/accommodation

bluecheesefan · 19/01/2021 16:33

In the same sort of vein as Butlins in years gone by, yes, but a smaller independent. With the original chalets, not modern lodges.

Cornwall is a bit too far for us @yearinyearout - we went down there once some years ago and the traffic was so bad coming home it took us 10 hours!

We used to go to one on Hayling Island.. but that's now gone to caravans.. such a shame although the chalets were a bit run down the park was good fun and had that old holiday camp feel. I don't think there are many left at all now

Mill Rythe do you mean - it was called Sunshine Holiday Park at one time. That's the one our family has been going to for the best part of 50 years - I can't tell you how angry I am about what they've done to it.

Pontins has chalets if you're feeling brave.

HelloDoris · 19/01/2021 20:57

Yes Mill Rythe!! The outdoor pool was freezing, the chalets were basic, but there was plenty of food, the kids had a BALL in the disco and it just felt so safe. We won't go back I don't think, it was cheap and cheerful and perfect for the price. I don't want to pay more for a basic caravan and no food, and well Hayling Island doesn't have much going for it. Sad times here too..

Potters at Great Yarmouth is what you’re looking for OP. It does have a posh hotel now on site too but the original chaltets remain. All inclusive fabulousness, we love it there.

I learned to dive in that pool in about 1973.

We won't be going back - they've completely destroyed what it was that brought families back year after year. We've met people there who went there as children, took their own children and now their grandchildren.

You're right, it was safe and it was fun.

There’s some in Norfolk? www.great-yarmouth.co.uk/Hemsby-Blue-Riband-Chalet-Holidays/details/?dms=3&pid=0090167

Rudding Holiday Park

@bluecheesefan have a look at Winterton-on-sea in Norfolk, absolutely beautiful place on an amazing beach. Very old school sweet chalets.

Ineverdidmind · 27/01/2021 19:45

(It's called Winterton Valley holidays)

PointBreakOrBadBoys2 · 27/01/2021 19:47

I was going to suggest Hemsby! We used to go when I was a kid - must be about 35 years ago now Shock
