Hi, I’ve had a good old laugh over this card. Much needed. In all fairness, he’s very thoughtful about getting a nice card and an equally nice verse.

This year though he clearly hadn’t read it properly...

It was 6am this morning when I opened it before he left for work and it took him a few minutes to realise that the card was intended to be from a woman to another woman.

Apparently, last year my younger DD picked out a lovely mother's Day card for me, with dinosaurs. The shop assistant had to point out to her it said 'from your son' (and agreed with her it was silly there wasn't a dinosaur mother's Day card from a daughter- she actually went to look)

(My DD, 7yo was with my mother, who had eyesight problems)

(As a toddler, same child chose to give me a minions Easter egg for mother's Day because it was chocolate and minions were cool.)

For mothers day last year DH picked up a card from the DC which said "like a mum to me".

Happy birthday OP, its mine today too Grin

We were away on holiday when I realised I needed to get an anniversary card for my DH as it was on the day we travelled home. I grabbed one in a rush in a card shop which said Bon Anniversaire on the front. It wasn't until I went to write it I realised that means happy birthday! I have it to him anyway and we both had a good laugh about it.

StealthRoast · 19/01/2021 03:41

@ShrekandDonkey birthday buddies Smile

Sorry it’s late but a big Happy Birthday to you too...

I love it when I meet others with the same Birthday as me. Lived next door to my old neighbour for 10 years before realising the reason we both had cards in the window on January 18th was because we shared a birthday! I am now 43.... when I was younger 43 seemed ancient and now I’m here myself. With insomnia.

DH bought me a card online last year and didn’t notice that he was supposed to personalise it on the front, so it said ‘Happy birthday Sarah’......my name isn’t Sarah!

rainbowninja · 19/01/2021 03:50

Belated happy birthday @StealthRoast your post gave me a giggle, thank you! My sister once sent my husband a birthday card but forgot to write anything in it, it was completely blank. My husband burst out laughing and said 'I do love it when people make the effort to add a personal touch...'

maggienolia · 19/01/2021 08:25

Ex DH was never one for empathy.
He was into the Young Conservatives and supported the local (very slimy) candidate in the elections.
We lived in a Liberal safe seat and said candidate got absolutely trounced, losing his deposit.

Ex sent him a sympathy card. Suffice to say that it didn't go down well...

My son bought a Great Grandfather one then realised his mistake

My brother always gets 'funny' birthday cards, on purpose, completely random to the occasion. It does raise a smile usually - but he got my mum a 'you're like a mother to me' one once and it really upset her! I'm not sure why, as he does it all the time (I got a 'happy birthday to the cat' card for my 30th birthday last year) and has done since he was quite young!
Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2021 11:49

When DC1 was little DH bought them a Mothers Day card with a cat on for them to give me.
I do like cats, but wasn't keen on the 'You are like a Mummy to me' on the front. Hmm Grin

My eccentric uncle sent me a birthday card for Christmas,

The writing in the card said Happy Birthday,

He had scored out the Birthday bit and underneath he had written, Christmas I mean Grin

It's my birthday on Saturday, Wonder if he'll send me a Christmas card. Grin

@HoppingOnSteppingStones

We had a Mr and Mr card for our wedding instead of Mr and Mrs.
We got a 'mrs and mrs' from my absolutely lovely great auntie Smile
PainterInPeril · 21/01/2021 12:20

When I was ill one time as a teenager, a few of my friends in my congregation (I'm a JW) sent me a beautiful card to say 'get better soon.' I opened it up... it said "happy birthday" on the inside which had been hastily crossed out, and an "Oops!" written next to it!Grin

Another time, years later, one of my friends got engaged. I sent her fiance a sympathy card as a joke! It was proudly displayed on his TV when my friend and I next visited his house. Both of them thought it was hilarious! Luckily.Grin

When our son was born my husband bought me a card to the proud parents. I asked him who he thought the father was.

Lucieintheskye · 21/01/2021 12:30

DH and I got a sympathy card from a young couple we knew for our wedding. They didn't realise what it meant! Grin We also got a 'To my lovely wife' card!

DiscustinHunAmFummin · 21/01/2021 12:33

I got a birthday card for "some one who is like a mum to me" bought by DP from the children. The writing is much smaller so I can see how it happens.

frogsbreath · 21/01/2021 12:43

My first Mother's Day card was a "from the cat" type. We had cats, it had a cat on it, job done for DH Grin

TheD0gate1t · 21/01/2021 12:53

My husband got me this from our toddlers for my birthday .... he genuinely did not realise it was meant from a dog. The toddlers were potty training, it made sense . He didn't even notice the paw print hearts. It will forever be bought up and laughed about!

We got a wedding card: For the new Mr&Mr.

It was a lovely card and the writing all swirly and glittery so I can see why in a hurry you would mistake it - we didn't instantly notice, it had been up a few days!
