I hate my new washing mashing

Had to replace our four year old Zanussi machine, may it rest in peace now after doing many, many loads of washing (family of five, three small children, have penchant for mud).

Sparkly new Samsung Add wash was delivered today. It’s so sensitive! I brushed it with my t-shirt as I was pottering around it and managed to turn off a 2 hour 45 minute cycle, as it had about an hour to go.
Tried to restart the machine from the point of interruption but no such luck. It started a new cycle of 3 hours and 19 minutes.

I am furious. Unreasonably so. Does anyone have this machine and if so can you impart any words of wisdom on how to either make it less accidental to accidental touch (is there no child lock?!) or at least how to restart the interrupted wash cycle.

Do you have a picture of the controls? I have a Samsung (not add wash though) and have never accidentally switched it off in that manner

dementedpixie · 17/01/2021 18:40

And you probably do have a child lock feature. Can you look in the manual

dementedpixie · 17/01/2021 18:41

You would only be able to restart the wash cycle if you had paused it. Once you switch it off you're back to the start

Pearlwindow · 17/01/2021 18:43

I can’t remember what make mine is but I’ve accidentally paused it because the controls are sensitive, but I can just unpause, rather than starting again. That sounds like a pain.
If you can’t find a solution in the instruction manual, I’d be tempted to sellotape a cardboard flap over the buttons which I’d just lift up to press them. Not idea but better than starting a 3 hour cycle again

lozengeoflove · 17/01/2021 18:47

So this is the control panel.
I did consider making some sort of a makeshift box, but as you say pearl. It’s not ideal.

pixie the manual is as minimalistic as the control panel! Perhaps I need some sort of a degree?

Do you know the model?
My machine has actual buttons Shock

Radishesandcake · 17/01/2021 18:53

From the Samsung website:

The most common ways to activate and deactivate child lock are:

press and hold the temp and spin/rinse buttons for three seconds

press and hold the - and + buttons for three seconds

press and hold the temp and spin buttons for three seconds

lozengeoflove · 17/01/2021 18:55

Thank you radishesandcake. Too scared to try it now. Could not make it through another 3+ hour cycle of the same load.
Will try it though.

It’s Samsung WW10T684DLH, pixie.

Does this help?

Yes! Thank you so much! You’re an angel.

I have the same machine after my 6 year old machine broke during lockdown. Ours has always needed you to hold the button down for a few seconds every time. It also tells you when you haven’t held it down for kong enough.

sararh · 17/01/2021 19:05

do you hate everything you don't understand/isn't familiar to you? ... Hmm

lozengeoflove · 17/01/2021 20:30

Brilliant, thank you picallatedpixie. The first wash is still going 😬

I hate my new washing machine. All the washes are about three years long....!

EternalOptimist7 · 17/01/2021 20:32

Had to smile at washing mashing 🙂

Horehound · 17/01/2021 20:33

People fear change, don't they?

TodgerStrunk · 17/01/2021 20:40

I hate my new machine too. Every time it defaults to a 1000 rpm spin cycle. What is the point, everything would still be dripping. And, you'd think one could press the spin speed button twice to go from 1000 to 1200 to 1400, but no, it goes from 1000 to 900 to 800 to 700 to 600 to 500 then to 1400 and usually by then I'm just bashing away at the button missing my beautiful old machine and miss it and have go go back through the cycle.

And it does not sing me the Song of Its People when it has finished which I'm sure your Samsung does.

lozengeoflove · 17/01/2021 20:48

In my utter rage I didn’t even notice the typo, eternal.

Update! It’s now been five years since I put the first load on. It has finished and as predicted by todger it signalled the end of its labours by signing a very lengthy anthem.

I thought all the children’s toys had come to life.

About to try to wash another load now. Fingers crossed that the child lock function will work!

My Samsung has a daily wash that doesn't take 3 years to complete. It plays its wee tune at the end

lozengeoflove · 17/01/2021 20:58

I’ve discovered Super Speed cycle which takes 57 minutes. Child lock is now on and all seems to work well. Thank you so much for all the help Flowers.

My AddWash has a 50 min wash for day to day things. Also if you alter the temperature & rinses before you start it'll bring the time down. I tend to alter to 30°, 3 rinses & 1600 spin on the Cotton cycle & add in bubble soak & it's done in just over an hour. The only time it takes longer is if it's a big load so heavy when it weighs it. The control panel is very sensitive on mine too.

lozengeoflove · 17/01/2021 21:24

Ah that’s a great tip, Bernards. Love your name.
