Morning routine for waking up

What is your morning routine. What things do you do in the morning that start your day off in a good way?

I’ve fallen into a slump whereby I am waking feeling awful, needing 2 coffees and am slow to get going. Doesn’t start the day well for me.

So I’m interested to hear how others start their day.

Thinking of bringing my daily walk earlier and doing a very early morning walk to see if that gets the day started for me better.

I'm retired so no rushing to work.
I get up when the dog does. If it's anytime before 7 she gets a wee in the garden, fed and back to bed for a couple of hours. Otherwise i get up and throw scruffs on, tie hair up, drink a glass of water and grab a piece of fruit, walk dog for 15 - 20 mins. Get back, feed her and whilst I've still got boots etc on, drive 10 mins to my allotment to feed and clean out the chickens and get the eggs.
Have a coffee whilst checking the news and social media, then wash up/clean kitchen/ sweep and mop the kitchen floor.
I eat breakfast, either porridge or eggs, then if I'm going anywhere, I shower, dry hair, put some make up on. If not, I just brush my teeth.

I need about 7 hours sleep, so I try to be in bed by 10.30pm at latest on a school night, luckily I fall asleep pretty quickly. I'm on annual leave this week, so routine has gone out the window a little bit, but will get back into it by the weekend. I've never had a consistent morning routine before, grew up without one and then just carried on into my adult life rolling out of bed and rushing around like a headless chicken in the mornings, usually skipping breakfast. I was quite depressed last year, and on my days off found that I could easily not be showered or dressed until the afternoon, which made me feel worse. I read a thread on here about good habits that have changed your life for the better, and someone recommended a book called "atomic habits", which I found very useful as a starting point for looking at where I could make small changes that would improve my life. Anyway, blah blah, some of my tips would be about getting out of the right side of the bed...

Get everything that you'll need in the morning ready the night before. I put out a weeks worth of work out clothes and work out outfits on a chair in my bedroom so I can get dressed as quick as possible, and try to batch make my lunches for work (work backpack is left by the fridge so I don't forget). I make sure the kitchen is clean (so much more peaceful waking up to a clean kitchen), and put out the stuff I'll need for breakfast and a bottle of water in the fridge. I do a ten minute yoga video before bed: Yoga with Kassandra has lots of relaxing evening ones to do.

I use my phone as my alarm clock, and for the first alarm I use a gentle "white noise" sound from spotify, much nicer to be initially woken up with a gentle noise. Then have a louder one 5 minutes later, which gets me out of bed. I also have a sunrise alarm clock, but my boyfriend hates it so sadly don't use it much.

Write down your morning routine (like you would for a child haha), and make sure the timings are realistic. At first I set prompts on my phone alarm for getting in the shower, making breakfast etc, as I can be easily distracted and let half an hour go by without realising. Also use the "focus" mode on my phone sometimes; you can chose to block certain apps so can't procrastinate too much.

I realise the above probably makes me sound like a weird control freak, but I am a routine convert now BlushGrin.
