Has Covid become a reason to treat ourselves with food and drink?

I've been thinking about how, given the current restrictions, it's fairly common for adult treats to be food based e.g. chocolate, dessert, wine, crisps, etc. And it seems treats are becoming more of a regular/daily occurrence than a treat.

However, how many of us used to treat ourselves with food/drink pre-Covid? Am I wrong in thinking some of us are using Covid as an excuse and actually used to regularly indulge in 'naughty' food and drink even before?

I already did this so badly!

FippertyGibbett · 16/01/2021 11:35

I don’t need Covid to allow myself treats.

I do because I find it hard to find things to look forward to so I’m giving myself treats in terms of food but then I’m not going out for meals, tea and cake, wine etc so I think it’s probably about even. The hard part will be stopping doing it when we can go out for all those things

SmellyPooHead · 16/01/2021 11:42

Yes definitely, it's something to look forward to which I couldn't justify buying in normal times

I'm usually quite good at keeping my treats in check. When the first lockdown started I started using it as an excuse to treat myself more often. Then I saw my weight creep up and was annoyed at myself. I've since dropped a stone and have gone back to keeping an eye on my treats. I see so many people complain they've put on weight but continue to eat too much. I was one of those (now I complain I can't treat myself without getting fat!). I wonder how many of us will find it hard to stop indulging once the 'excuse' of Covid goes.

God yes! Usually in Jan, I have a health kick but not this year.

Looking forward to a glass of red with mushroom truffle pizza followed my tiramisu later Grin
I had covid over Xmas and lost half a stone - need to get back up to 8 stone as I look haggard so I have an excuse.

I gave up booze in the first lockdown, and lost quite a lot of weight as a result. I’m definitely eating more, though, especially since Christmas.

There are so FEW things I can treat myself with relatively cheaply when it’s another lockdown and it’s dark and cold. Chocolate and pizza seem like lovely little highlights of the day.

I’m thinking of making February my health kick month, though. Agree - it can only go on fir so long unless I want to end up fat, sluggish and miserable!

Yes, and I have all the signs of it.

At the moment my extremely disciplined husband is bugging the hell out of me.

Yoga, walking, eating healthily, exercise fxxking bike, everything that I am avoiding.

I am being made to feel so guilty by this paragon of good living.....

I feel like giving him a good slap🤨🤣

Suzi888 · 16/01/2021 17:05

Blush YES!
But cutting back massively now! Not healthy at all.

UnholyStramash · 16/01/2021 17:50

I guess so .....

SendMeHome · 16/01/2021 17:52

Meh, there’s always an excuse. This isn’t exclusive to Covid.

And if a glass of wine or a packet of crisps keeps people feeling alright through this, it’s probably alright. It’d be good to get a walk/run/workout in too, but mental health is important.
