Help me get rid of thrush

fairgame84 · 15/01/2021 18:33

Currently on 4th episode since October.
Never had a problem with it before and I don't know what I'm doing wrong!
Honestly my fanjo is on fire.

Im not pregnant.
Not diabetic.
Don't use soap down there, just on the bits next to my legs.
Don't use bubble bath or wipes.
I use a mooncup.
All my underwear is cotton.
I've not changed any washing powder.
No urine infection.

I did change loo roll briefly but I changed back because it was the cheap sandpaper stuff.

Nothing is different, I don't understand why it won't go away 😢
GP has had a good look up there and said it all looks fine. There's no discharge, just a slight redness on my cervix. She said she wouldn't know i had thrush again except for it showing up on swabs. My only symptom is a burning sensation.

What else can I do?

I had this. Usually the pessary works but this time it kept coming back. GP said it was likely it hadn't actually cleared the last time and prescribed me some tablets I had to take every three days. I think there were maybe 3 or 4 tablets in total? Anyway, that finally worked!

GhostPenguin · 15/01/2021 18:37

Oh also, you totally have my sympathy. Good luck!

fairgame84 · 15/01/2021 18:40

She gave me the pessary again. I can't have the tablet because we are ttc and she won't give me it until my next period in case I've caught on.

Comically though I've asked dp to use the cream in case he's passing it back to me, he stood at the bathroom door holding a tube of oral B asking if it was the right stuff 😂

He absolutely should use it as well. I'm not sure why people are not given the advise to make sure their partners are treated too.

britnay · 15/01/2021 18:47

Not the pessary, he should use the cream ;)

10kstepsaroundthegardenthen · 15/01/2021 18:49

Have you boiled your mooncup?

Definitely treat your partner

Get some cream as well

Bettina500 · 15/01/2021 18:58

If it's been since TTC could you be sensitive to semen (rare but possible) or maybe you're passing it back and forth to each other.
Not sure if it's still recommended these days but I had some success with natural yogurt years ago.
A probiotic might be worth taking too.

fairgame84 · 15/01/2021 18:59

I've got the cream as well as the pessary so I'm using both.
I put my mooncup in a cold water steriliser after each cycle, I wasn't sure if I could boil it.
Yes im not sure why they don't treat partners as well, GP said it's not necessary but it states on the leaflet partners can have it with no symptoms.

Haha! I mean, I guess he could try the Oral B! He should treat himself with the cream too as pps have said

larrythelizard · 15/01/2021 19:23

Has your diet changed? I get a bit thrushy when I eat too much sugar - have a google of a yeast free diet

fairgame84 · 15/01/2021 19:29

Diet has probably been a bit sugary past few months. I'll look into yeast free diet, thanks.
puts down the haribo

Get him to take the tablet.
Stay off sex until you’re symptom free (difficult I know when TTC)
Try asking for a course of pessaries (although I had the tablet, I was prescribed 3 days worth) to really give it a chance to kill it.

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 15/01/2021 19:38

Oh and high temperature wash on your underwear and I’ve heard others have had success with ironing the gusset too in case anything is still lurking

popsydoodle4444 · 15/01/2021 19:40

Have you tried fluconazole?

High as in 60°C or higher still?

No I've just been given the canestan pessary and cream by the gp. She hasn't given me fluconazole. It's come from swab results so I'm assuming they tested sensitivity in the lab.

I use

Isisiris · 15/01/2021 20:01

Manuka honey. Stick yourself together with it before bed.

You can definitely boil mooncups.
Pessaries from the hospital are generally better than the ones sold in chemists etc. I hope you find soemthing that works. Diet changes can help too.

Duckchick · 15/01/2021 20:10

I have problems with recurrent thrush unless I take the tablets. When I had problems while pregnant, the GP prescribed me a single pack with 3 pessaries in it (and no cream) to use, you use one each night for 3 days. It completely sorted it so might be something to try?

Msgiggles30 · 15/01/2021 20:15

I can't take the tablet as I am allergic which is a pain in the arse really as was working for me before. I would give partner tablet then abstain for a week or two. I have issues with reoccurring thrush and am now on weekly pessaries for 6 months! I would ask for a course of pessaries maybe not for that long but taking some a few days apart to really shift it. I also get skin rashes on other parts of my body and thirst etc but blood sugar apparently fine. Although I do have PCOS so wonder if there is a link.

BouncyMonk · 15/01/2021 20:20

Agree with getting DH to take the tablet- you can get generic versions in supermarkets which are cheaper than the brands. Also definitely cut back on sugar/white carbs. That’s worked for me.

Gingerbreadchoc · 15/01/2021 21:03

In my experience, the cream and pessaries don’t fully get rid of it, they just dampen it down and then it reappears again.

Get yourself to a pharmacy and get fluconazole. (Might be worth holding off until you know if you’re pregnant) but if you’re not, take the tablet.

fiorentina · 15/01/2021 22:07

I got recurrent thrush and the doctor believed it could be hormonal as it definitely related to my period. I took flucanazole every week for 3 months and that cleared it. Not ideal if you are ttc though sadly.

KatyN · 16/01/2021 08:17

Mine is definitely diet related. I don’t need to go yeast free but sugar triggers it really fast. Once I have it I need to be sugar free for a week+ to clear it.
