Seen it all now (grabby MLM outrage)

On a local FB group some MLM bot who appears to be a body shop hunny has posted a fundraiser to raise £200 funds for a 'care-package' for the local hospital staff.

And get this - she will be providing the goodies in the care-package from her own stock!

Not that I doubt that the hospital staff are working hard and don't deserve treats, but how is profiteering from our hardworking NHS even remotely a thing??

Fortunately a few people have pointed out that the hospital in question has released a specific statement that they cannot accept random donations due to infection control, but apparently they do have an Amazon wishlist. Will the MLM bot redirect her funds to the wishlist - oh no! She will 'reroute it to local teams' - whatever that means.

I can't get over the brazenness! (She has raised just over half already)

Nothing surprises me about CF MLM's anymore. I think people just pay up to get rid of them half the time!

reesewithoutaspoon · 15/01/2021 12:18

we've had them targeting the hospital with lip balms, hand creams, and hand washes. stating they will provide them at cost taking no profit as a gesture to all the NHS staff, until you realise that they are just doing it to make their monthly sales figures to maintain their distributor status and most of the stuff (overpriced and mediocre) we cant use anyway as it wouldn't pass infection control.

That’s awful! I have found that it’s always the MLM seller who offers to do the teacher presents for my daughters classes, and then shock it’s always made up of stuff that they sell! Let’s hope they liked wax melt candle things!

That’s terrible. I bet they get rid of all the crap they can’t sell that way. I’d never shop at Body Shop again because of their MLM business. What a shit company.

TattiePants · 15/01/2021 12:54

This popped up on my facebook last night to buy a £4 Body Shop sheet mask for the NHS. Loads of comments about how amazing she is for doing it!

This really riles me...i hate mlm's with a passion...trying to make out they are doing good...really pisses me off.

TheDuchessOfBeddington · 15/01/2021 13:05

That is disgusting OP. These people have no shame.

I’m a nurse we had a body shop bot ask our team to donate £2 each and we’ll all receive a free hand cream. Every member said it’s not free if we’ve paid for it 🤣

That's hilarious. Especially if she asked you to "donate". Donate to her pocket?
Adios2011 · 15/01/2021 13:29

They're are doing this for the teachers and school staff too!
Asking for money to create 'treat bags' but it's for their sales!!

Christ, that is even more brazen. These people truly have no shame!

Given how widespread this is it seems likely this is a 'strategy' recommended by the uplines/management. Shocking behaviour.

must be a body shop initiative. Ours is doing it too.
Donate £4 and she'll send a handcream to the local hospital.

Poundland do some excellent handcreams and would prob be far more acceptable and far less stinky

IndecentFeminist · 15/01/2021 13:56

Yup, our local Tropic lady was asking for customers to 'sponser' a care package for NHS staff. Previous to that it was for chemo patients.

overwork · 15/01/2021 13:57

I had a private message from a friend the other week, asking if I could share her post to 'raise money for myself and other NHS workers' (to buy BodyShop products through her of course). They must think we're daft. I spent quite a bit of time researching MLMs after that (not a term I'd heard if before) but something about her message made me feel really uncomfortable. I'd already declined her offer to attend a virtual 'party'. I feel sorry for her, she's an intelligent woman going through a hard time and I feel like she's been targeted. I hope she realises it's a waste of time before too long

Meanwhile in the real world, other people can put together parcels just by asking. Our local pub landlady has posted on FB asking for people to bring donations of toiletries etc to the pub and she will collate it all and deliver it to the hospital.

Woodifer · 13/05/2021 16:53

this happened at our school - someone said they were collecting for a care package for the teachers - so we chipped in - was a massive selection of body shop goodies (though seller said she didn't take commission)
