Hi so I’m 15+6 weeks pregnant and yesterday my dog jumped up on my stomach he’s a German shepherd that’s why I’m worried so much he got me at the side of my belly button will my baby be okay? I’m such an over thinker thank you

Impossible for us to say. Did it hurt? Did he jump ON you or up AT you? Did he land fully on your bump? Does anything feel differently?

wavecatcher · 15/01/2021 10:19

Honestly will be totally fine, baby is well protected in there and still small. Call your midwife if you have pain or bleeding.

But on a side note have you thought ahead to when baby arrives and keeping the dog separate? If he's jumping up it could be disastrous around a tiny new born.

Jessican · 15/01/2021 10:20

Hi, it didn’t hurt but I did feel it he jumped up at me nothing feels different just with him being a big dog I get paranoid

@wavecatcher hi thank you, we will be moving house with a bigger garden so he has more freedom and can stay out all day except in bad weathers of course and will be putting a gate up so he cant just charge back into the house with him only being a puppy as well he is still learning but will be kept away from baby when they’re born.

You’ll be fine.
My cat used to sit on my bump and purr, then my baby would kick where the cat was sitting !

theconstantinoplegardener · 15/01/2021 10:24

I fell onto my bump with DC1 (about 8 months pregnant), my husband accidentally sat on my bump as I lay on my side in bed (again, about 7-8 months) and I landed awkwardly on my stomach whilst hauling myself out of a swimming pool when about 10 weeks pregnant with DC3. They were all fine! The uterus is luckily very strong, and that plus the amniotic fluid have great shock-absorbing properties for everyday knocks and bumps. Unless you develop other symptoms, such as cramping or bleeding, I wouldn't be too worried.

Jessican · 15/01/2021 10:27

I got some slight cramping last night a few hours after but it was just the same pain as normal so I didn’t think anything of it as it wasn’t any more painful than normal

OP posts:
Jessican · 15/01/2021 10:28

@theconstantinoplegardener sounds like you went through it all, thank you so much for the reassurance

OP posts:
theconstantinoplegardener · 15/01/2021 10:32

As you have had cramping, I would probably ring the EPAU (early pregnancy assessment unit) or your midwife for a chat, just to be sure. It sounds like you tend to get some cramping anyway though, so it's probably just that, so try not to worry. I still think it's highly unlikely that your pup has caused damage.

Wolfiefan · 15/01/2021 10:38

You can’t leave your dog outside full time OP. You need to do training.
If you’re concerned then contact your midwife. Has anyone said you may need anti D

Jessican · 15/01/2021 10:39

@theconstantinoplegardener I’ll have to call my doctor and he will make the decision to refer me to them as I’m still under my doctors care, I have a scan booked for tomorrow so that’s helping a lot but then I’m paranoid about it as well just worry if everything’s okay

OP posts:
Jessican · 15/01/2021 10:41

@Wolfiefan he prefers being outdoors anyway and he wouldn’t be outside full time he will have a choice but if he’s inside he will be in the kitchen with a gate up at the living room door so he can’t charge in and no no ones said I need that

OP posts:
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 15/01/2021 10:45

You will be absolutely fine. Someone's dog tripped me up and I fell on my bump at about 25 weeks (not the dogs fault, stupid owner blocking the whole path with an extending lead). Luckily it was a slow motion fall and I landed on the grass, but they are pretty padded in there.

ShalomToYouJackie · 15/01/2021 10:48

You'll be fine, babies are very well cushioned and protecte and it sounds like he just jumped up at you rather than leapt onto your stomach.

I think at 15 weeks you're too far along for EPU but way too early for maternity unit/DAU which is usually from 22 or 24 weeks so maybe call your GP if you are worried

Jessican · 15/01/2021 10:50

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion thank you for the reassurance I’m glad everything was okay with you and your baby

OP posts:
Jessican · 15/01/2021 10:51

@ShalomToYouJackie thank you and yeah he didn’t leap he just got a bit too excited and jumped up I have a scan tomorrow so I think I’ll wait unless I get any really bad pain then I’ll ring doctors up

OP posts:
theconstantinoplegardener · 15/01/2021 11:00

It's good that you've a scan tomorrow. That will hopefully reassure you and it's not too long to wait. Best of luck OP!

SlothMama · 15/01/2021 11:00

You should be fine OP, but I agree with PP you can't just leave the dog outside all day to entertain itself. You need to train it now to not jump on you, otherwise it could start jumping on your child and potentially hurt them.

Jessican · 15/01/2021 11:04

@theconstantinoplegardener thank you

OP posts:
Arobase · 15/01/2021 11:05

I know the deed is done now, but what was the thinking behind getting a German Shepherd puppy when you were pregnant?

Jessican · 15/01/2021 11:05

@SlothMama we are training him now and he is getting better just when he gets too excited. But we are going to keep working on it

OP posts:
Jessican · 15/01/2021 11:18

@Arobase I got him before I got pregnant

OP posts:
MermaidUnicorn · 15/01/2021 12:13

You'll be fine. My toddler son used to jump on me when I was pregnant with his sister. She's nearly 9 now and ridiculously healthy Smile

Jessican · 15/01/2021 12:41

@MermaidUnicorn thank you for the reassurance
