Insomnia and eating at night?

KatyMac · 15/01/2021 06:23

I am depressed and on medication, I have cfs/for and my sleep pattern has imploded

I rarely get more that 2-3 hours at a time and it's randomly through the day and night

So why am I unbelievably hungry at 3/4/5 am?

I feel like I havent eaten for days! I'm not eating substantially more just at odd/stupid o'clock (tin of soup at 3:30am yesterday and dear god I have wanted a bacon sandwich since about 4am today

Well that happens accidentally
I dont think I've ever taken a stimulant

But the not sleeping in the day is a killer, the cfs can make me drop off almost mid-conversation; I mean not today!!

I feel so wired when I am tired, if I closed my eyes now I'd go
Its weighing up if any sleep (daytime) is better than no sleep

I dont think I've ever taken a stimulant

Sorry, I was thinking of coffee/alcohol/sugar, but it does look a bit like I was accusing you of drug use! Didn't mean it like that at all.

I've been awake since 4am, and I went to sleep about 11, slept at 12ish

I had a 1 hr nap yesterday about 3 (its like juggling naps with a toddler)

At the risk of sounding like a fool who doesn't understand... what's up with just responding to what your body needs when it needs it? As long as you don't eat only Toffee Crisps for a year (or something), and keep a rough eye on getting the right nutrients?

I mean, it's not perfect, but it might be better than constantly trying to fight it. If you're taking medication, maybe just accept that it'll affect your rhythms for a bit... Less stressful, maybe?

I would have a look at this OP, it's the first thing I thought of when I saw the words, fatigue, waking for food, depression & insomnia.

Cortisol & Sleep

Im currently trying to cure my insomnia with the help of my G.P. We are trying the minipill at the moment, with a SSRI, in case it's perimenopause.

Could that be a possibility?
I also have CFS.

I wake 3 hours after falling asleep & Im awake for 3-4 hours Hmm

KatyMac · 16/01/2021 19:34

Yes I think I am better when I just go with it

Fighting it just makes me feel worse (toffee crisps used to come in a dark chocolate version...but they stopped making them)

I wonder if the waking up starving is just because I am eating at 'odd' times

Oh I dunno

Also insomnia might be a side effect of the medication. Its so hard to know what causes what.

I have porridge before bed and still wake up.

KatyMac · 16/01/2021 19:46

I think its the antidepressants

I went to the gp with nightmares and anxiety - the nightmares were waking me up but id go back asleep straightaway so my sleep was broken but I was still getting enough

I wonder if I should try changing my ad? Will the gp go with that?

Omg!

I slept from around 10:30 to 3:20, went to the loo and had a drink then slept again until just now!

That is over 7 hours I feel so much better!

Now what did I do different yesterday.....

Maybe it's better when you've had a chat about it. Even if it is online with strangers Smile

Worrying about not being able to sleep can keep you awake.

KatyMac · 17/01/2021 09:02

I agree, I also took my ad later in the day (about 1 pm) so ill try that today and see

A good 6 hours last night, plus an additional few which were broken with tossing and turning

A massive success

I'll be taking my medication later today, I think, to see if its a fluke!

Im glad you got some sleep. It might be worth tracking the insomnia for a month or two.

Mine is worse the week before my period, then the week I am ovulating. I was able to tell my G.P exactly when it happens, so we are trying the minipill and ssri.

No ovaries and I'm on continuous hrt so I shouldn't be fluctuating due to hormones (I think?)

I'm about to get up and have a tuna bagel and play on zelda for an hour or so before starting sewing

Things seem to be looking up Smile

Funksoul · 18/01/2021 07:45

Ah yes, possibly not then, its good to rule things out. One thing I have been trying is Magnesium cream from Holland & Barrett. I put it on my legs before bed, it takes a few weeks they say. Its not that cheap, but needs must Smile
