And it was amazing!

I don’t normally have a desert, but was absolutely in the mood tonight.

Like childhood comfort food, it was delicious.

Sorry but you're doing it wrong. Tinned pears should be served with icecream and hot chocolate sauce. I recommend Nigella's Chocolate Peant Butter Sauce and I don't even like peanuts.

RightOnTheEdge · 14/01/2021 21:00

Now I want some!
I'm adding tinned peaches, cream, tinned pears and chocolate ice-cream to my Tesco order!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/01/2021 21:07

I also made a fabulous lockdown cake with tinned apricots and almonds.

And I used to make a chocolate trifle with chocolate Swiss roll, tinned mandarins, orange jelly, custard to which I added cocoa, cream.

CMOTDibbler · 14/01/2021 21:13

If we are talking about dirty trifles, then chocolate muffin, tinned black cherries or cherry pie filling, chocolate custard, squirty cream is amazing in a rummage in the cupboard way

At work today (nursing home) they had stewed plums and custard for pudding it went down extreamly well. It reminded me of school.

Tinned fruit in a sponge tart case covered with Quick - Gel jelly stuff. Yum. Very Seventies style.

I bake plums in port or red wine and serve with custard or rice pudding, for a slightly boozier version of this. Delicious!

Speaking of tinned fruit and in particular, the fruit cocktail, does anyone else have any memories of their mum try to dish it out i equal parts to their kids. These were the days when there was ore than one cherry in the tin and woe betide my mum if there weren't enough to go round! Now I think there is only a slight sliver of pinkness that is the cherry!

Funnily enough I was thinking about this the other day! I now feel sorry for my mum!

Sorry, but honestly Remus you can't tell us that without giving us a recipe hard stare over the top of my glasses

Tinned pears, chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream for a quick Pear Belle Helene. Delicious!

No recipe - I made it up!

basic sponge - 3 eggs / 6 ounces butter, sugar, flour
I added some of the tinned apricots to it, chopped, plus a bit of the juice and a handful of blueberries
Put it into the tin then put halved apricots on top and some flaked almonds
Baked it until it was done!
It was really moist and lovely.

Cherry pie filling is the food of the gods.

JaninaDuszejko · 15/01/2021 15:50

adds tinned apricots to shopping list

MsMarshaKlein · 16/01/2021 14:56

Ooh, tinned pears, I do t think I've had them since I was a kid. Served cold with that Nestles cream that was almost solid. I could quite go for some of that right now. It was a combination of both the taste and the texture of both the pears and the cream. I know what's getting added to my next shopping list!

Equimum · 16/01/2021 20:35

sassafras123 that is still my mum’s go-to dessert for when she has guests. She thinks it’s very sophisticated 😆.

Whatwouldnanado · 16/01/2021 20:44

Upside down cakes are great - tinned pineapple, bit of lime zest and coconut in the sponge, or tinned peaches with a handful of frozen raspberries, and pears with chocolate sponge and custard.

EvieBoo2 · 16/01/2021 20:48

Yummy. I like tinned pears with natural yogurt.

Pineapple with coconut sounds brilliant - I'm going to make this!
PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 16/01/2021 21:46

I love bananas and custard! Or rice pudding ...good of the gods!
Mum would home make a proper rice pudding, with fresh, grated nutmeg. But I just open a tin 😀

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 16/01/2021 21:47

FOOD of the gods! Why would autocorrect think I meant good!!!

AlCalavicci · 16/01/2021 22:04

Ok you lot you owe me about £4 as I have just added a load of tinned fruit carnations cream and Angel delight to my Tesco shopping list .Grin

Kumquatsquash · 16/01/2021 22:07

I just had 2 key lime cheesecakes from Aldi. I'm well posh.
