If you've had both vaccines doses, can you behave as Norma?

Just as the title says, really... my DM has her first vaccine last week. When she's had the second and waited a week or so as she's been told, what next? Does she still wear a mask? Social distance? How careful does she have to be? Can she hug the DGCs??

No, we don't stop the mask wearing / social distancing until the government tell us to. As yet, there is no evidence to suggest that having both vaccinations (so the complete dose) gives us sterile immunity. In other words, whilst those vaccinated are unlikely to be seriously ill or die from Covid, they MAY still be able to be infected and pass it on to others, whilst either suffering mild symptoms or NO symptoms. So to suddenly change back to 'normal' because you have been vaccinated would be selfish in the extreme, as you could be the reason that someone else dies.

This is the big fear. So many believe that vaccination means freedom from the habits we have adopted such as masks and hand washing etc.

Can I be Norma Jean when I get it?

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 14/01/2021 19:05

My mum was called Norma. She absolutely hated her name, but was named after her uncle Norman who was killed in WW2. My mum was absolutely lovely. You should definitely be more Norma.

Changethetoner · 14/01/2021 19:09

No, Norma, and your mum, and evryone else who has the jag, will have to wait until OFFICIAL SOURCES - inform them OFFICIALLY, that they may change their behaviour. Meanwhile, Norma, your mum, and evryone else, has to carry on follwing the Covid-19 guidelines, especially social distancing, and face covering wearing.

No, she'll still be able to infect others. Once the first wave of vaccinations is complete, the onus will still be on older people and the clinically vulnerable to continue staying indoors, limiting social interactions so they don't infect those that have been working so hard to protect them.

She can still catch it, vaccines aren't 100% effective and she can still pass it on.
