Tingling lip and nerve twitching in chin three weeks after tooth extraction?

Hello! I had a bottom tooth out before Christmas and it has healed nicely. But I’ve started getting a bit of an on and off ache in the area, a slightly tingly lower lip and a nerve twitching in my chin :-/

Could this be a sign of infection? I’m waiting on a call back from my dentist but they don’t always ring back so will have to chase if they don’t and thought I’d ask.

I didn’t think it could be nerve damage as I’d expect that to pop up as soon as it was done or near after not weeks later?

I had all four of my wisdom teeth out under GA when I was 18 and was left with temporary minor nerve damage which, quite frankly, made me look as though I had had a minor stroke. It didn't appear until the residual swelling had disappeared though, so about 10-14 days after the procedure.

It healed well, and everything was back to normal within two-three months (which, given the extent of what had to be done, was pretty good).

I don't think chasing your dentist for an opinion will do any harm, and probably a good idea to have it on record, but it will probably settle in time.

Argh! Meant to add that my symptoms were almost exactly like yours. The chin ache was the weirdest bit.

Thanks @ladyjaye sorry to hear you experienced that! It’s a very odd sensation. You can’t really tell from looking at my face it sort of feels like when you get a twitch under your eye or something

I completely agree, it's a very odd sensation!

I found that ice/heat/ice helped a little when it was very 'twitchy', but the unfortunate thing with nerve damage is that it is slow to heal/regenerate and it is just time.

Hang in there!

I don’t have nerve twitching in my chin, but do occasionally in my upper cheek. But I do have a lot of lip and lower cheek tingling due to orthodontic treatment five years ago. Sometimes when it’s cold I’m very aware of it, but mostly I no longer notice it.

Bruising of the ID nerve - should settle down in time. No need to see a dentist unless you're in pain.

I had this pretty severely for the first couple of years after my lower wisdom teeth were removed. I have it now to a lesser extent. It's becomes more noticeable if I'm under the weather.

Thank you all! I’m going back because I’ve had a bit of pain start up again and he wants to check there isn’t an infection brewing but it was the nerve stuff that was concerning me a bit!
