I had a tooth out on Christmas Eve, lower molar but front most molar on that side.
All went well and it’s healing well although one end has a deeper hole still than the other which looks like it has more tissue in it.

Yesterday I started getting what feels like tooth ache again. I can’t tell which tooth is it as it’s kind of radiating but it feels like it might be either of the teeth next to the extraction site. Is this normal?
Orajel and ibuprofen works at the moment but this is what happened before with the tooth I had to have out - it started like this and became agonisingly painful very quickly.

I had antibiotics when I first had the tooth out but was wondering if this could be infection? I’ve been trying to keep the extraction site clean but it does get food in it (I rinse thoroughly) and I haven’t been brushing it too much as advised as it’s very tender so will bleed, I’ve been mainly rinsing the area and ensuring the food comes out.

I wasn’t expecting pain this late after having it done and I’m freaking out that there’s a problem with another tooth now.

I phoned the dentist and they just said to keep an eye on it as they are only seeing patients in severe pain at the moment but I’m worried as we are heading into the weekend...

Any advice? Is this normal over two weeks after an extraction?

Dry socket? Has it not healed at all?

ToHellinahandbasket · 14/01/2021 11:02

It’s heard a fair bit just one end of the extraction hole seems to have healed a bit faster if you see what I mean

One end of the hole has lots
Of new gum tissue the other end seems to be a deeper hole still. But it looks like it still has gum tissue there. I thought it was a bit late for dry socket?

I was wondering if it could be pain due to tiny little bits of bone coming up?

I had a tooth out in December and was specifically told not to use anything like bonjela/orajel

ToHellinahandbasket · 14/01/2021 11:12

Oh really. I wasn’t given that advice I’ve only just used it today to help with the ache but will stop.
What was the reason do you know?

I’ve just had a look and although one end is definitely deeper there is also definitely gum tissue down there it’s not just a black hole like dry socket

I had a forward molar out recently too and had a kind of dull ache around the same time that didn’t develop into full blown pain.
From memory, Dr Google suggested that the gum takes 2/3 weeks to heal but any bruising or trauma to the jawbone takes much longer, so I put it down to the bone doing its healing thing.

It was worrying but went away on its own and never became a sharp pain. Fingers crossed it’s the same for you but def keep an eye out for signs of infection

ToHellinahandbasket · 14/01/2021 11:46

Thank you @BeastOfBODMAS it doesn’t look swollen or red and not hot to touch. It’s achey enough to take an ibuprofen but that seems to completely manage it so fingers crossed.
Quite a lot of little bone shards are coming up so I wondered if that was causing problems too

No, I don't know the reason why sorry.

Mine was a first molar but on the top. It ached for a long while afterward. My wisdom teeth extractions were much easier.

ToHellinahandbasket · 14/01/2021 12:38

No worries thank you!
I called back and actually managed to speak to the dentist and he is going to see me tomorrow incase it’s an infection
He did say it can be completely normal but that he wants to be sure as infection can turn nasty quickly so I’m really relieved
Fingers crossed it’s nothing too nasty
