Lockdown learning too stressful

DS is in year 8, he’s in mainstream and has an EHCP due to ASD and severe dyslexia.

His lessons are not going well. Despite having an EHCP and funding for a 1-1 TA he’s not getting any support at the moment.

DSs teachers are mainly using live lessons in Teams, DS is struggling to keep up and really doesn’t want my help (he’s really battling for independence at the moment so doesn’t want me sitting next to him in lessons).

If DS goes into school he will be accessing the remote work, which isn’t working for him. DS and the rest of his year group would be supervised by one TA who would be helping all those who need assistance (the majority who are in).

We are barely two weeks in and DS is highly anxious. He is stressed before his teachers even set tasks meaning that it very difficult to even get him to do the work he can access.

How are we going to cope for the next few weeks/potentially months. I feel so frustrated that DS can’t access his education at the moment. What can I ask the school to do to help?

In my school we are bringing in staff to support EHCP students with lessons. Have you spoken to your SENDCO - what do they suggest?

The SENCO said that the support staff are on a rota of one per year group at a time and they aren’t able to bring them in to work on a 1-1 basis. DSs funding is being used to help others but not him at the moment.
