I'm beginning to think that I do Blush
I've rung doctors, chemist etc the odd time but nothing regular and each time it's oh is that Aries? And I'm like yeeeeees. How do they know? Feel a bit self conscious now!

I hate mine. I sound much younger than I am, and prissy. I have to make videos for work sometimes and I just cringe in horror when I hear myself. When I answer the phone at home and it's someone who doesn't know me (bank, contractor etc) they quite often ask if they can speak to my mum. Blush I'm in my 50s!

Yes. 🤣

@MillieEpple

i think my family have a distinctive voice. Me, my mum, my sister and my aunt on the maternal side are basically interchangeable. I hear a voice message and don't know which of us has spoken.

But people do recognise 'us' on the phone. they just aren't sure which of us they have.

My brothers are like this, whenever I ring my parents house I never know which one it is. 3 of them live there and one visits regularly (support bubble)

@HerselfIndoors omfg yes young and prissy is exactly how I sound.

LadyJaye · 14/01/2021 15:08

My mother, sister and I also have a 'family voice' and are interchangeable on the phone.

Was a lot of fun when I was younger. Grin

I sound like a child on the phone (I'm not!)
It's awful- I work in a v. Male dominated industry, where it is hard to be taken seriously as a younger engineer anyway, let alone as a younger female engineer!

Even when I am feeling super confident, If I hear myself recorded I sound like a shy 10 year old!

The more passionate I feel about something, the higher my voice goes so I have to exercise a lot of self control when speaking to sound "serious" if I am trying to persuade.

HerselfIndoors · 14/01/2021 15:09

Although having said that, I have a friend who has a quite high voice which she hates, but to me it just sounds like her and not silly at all. We probably don't sound as weird to others as we do to ourselves.

Some people have very distinct 'voices' on here- I spot people that have namechanged quite frequently, even when the names and situations have absolutely no similarities.

In RL, my voice is quite distinctive, but in a positive way. Lots of people have commented how lovely and clear it is. I think I should have been a radio presenter or voice over artist I definitely have the face for radio!
I have done a little voice work for a friend of DH's, but didn't pursue.

moonrocket · 14/01/2021 15:13

And when I was younger, I often met people for the first time after only speaking on the phone and have then say "oh, I thought you were much older"...they don't say that any more! 😭😭

Other people think so! Me less so. I moved around quite a lot earlier in life and it’s left me with a random accent. No one can place where l am from, even the people where l an from originally. Everyone has a different opinion on my voice e.g. l have a “posh” accent, l really don’t!

sofiaaaaaa · 14/01/2021 15:19

I sound like a generic early 20s southerner - it’s definitely a thing, I hear some people speak and think they sound exactly like me! Wouldn’t say my voice is especially distinctive but I have had people recognise me over the phone.
